DISCLAIMER: it is important to know the story of the garden of eden in order to understand the first chapter. for those who do not know here is a summary;
The story of the Garden of Eden explains how Adam and Eve, the first humans, sinned, were separated from God and were expelled from paradise due to the fact they ate from the tree of knowledge, which God had forbidden them from doing.
Most famously seen in Milton's paradise lost, there's an interpretation that Eve was was a tempter and led Adam into evil as she ate from the tree first after being tempted by the devil.
NOTE: no offence toward any religion, iam only using the story of the garden of eden as a motif for the main character.
