Why Don't We Pregnancy Series

30. Labor/ Delivery- Jack

I'm a few days passed by due date so I've been told that the baby could come any day now. Our baby boy Joe. Jack and I can't wait to welcome him into the world and he parents to him. We are so excited. Me and Jack have decided between us that we want to have a home birth in our new apartment. I like the idea of a home birth as it's nice and relaxed as you are in the comfort of your own home. We will just call my midwife whenever I need her and whenever I go into labor. I hate hospitals too so that's partly why we decided to have a home birth. There is the downside, if anything goes wrong they will have to take me to hospital but hopefully it won't and baby Joe will be here safe and well. Jack and I are sat on the couch eating our favourite thing, cheese pizza with garlic sauce. It's so good. We are both rather basic eaters and love cheese pizza. We are devouring it between us. "How are you feeling, babe?" Jack asks. "Alright. This pizza is so good though" I reply. "I know right. I just wanted to make sure you were okay, love" he said. "I know, Jacky. That's awfully sweet of you, love" I reply. He smiles. When we had eaten our pizza, Jack and I continue to chill on the couch together. He shuffles closer to me and puts his arms around me. I suddenly start not to feel good. I clench my bump and feel a contraction coming on. "Jack, I think I'm having a contraction now" I say. "Okay, love. Do you want me to call Tracy yet?" Jack asks. "No just hang on. She said we need to time the contractions before we call her. "Okay, babe. I'll keep an eye on the time" he said. It's already 9:30pm and I just want to sleep but I can't. Can't even sleep at all

The contractions start to come more frequently so Jack calls Tracy, my midwife and she's on her way. She said she can come whenever we need her and I'm going into labor now by the looks of it. "Jack, it's painful" I scream. "It's okay, babe. Don't worry. Tracy will be here soon" Jack replies. We continue to wait for Tracy to arrive. Jack has left the door unlocked so she can walk in. Tracy arrives soon and walks in. "Hey. I'm here" she said. "Hey" Jack said. "Hi" I reply. "How are you doing, Y/ N?" Tracy said. "Okay but my contractions are coming more regularly" I reply. "Let's examine you to see how you're doing" she said. Tracy examines my cervix and I'm about half dilated already. Jack stays by my side so does Tracy. I was in pain but Jack held onto my hand and held me throughout. Awe he's so sweet and supportive. Couldn't ask for a better boyfriend and father of my soon to be son. It's about two hours later and the labor is rapidly progressing and I'm nearly fully dilated in just two hours. Tracy said we will just have to wait till I can feel the baby's head coming. "You're doing so well, baby so far. I'm so proud of you" Jack said. "Thanks, love" I reply. He smiles and kisses me. Soon I feel baby Joe's head coming so I get into position to push to get him out. "Get in the most comfortable position, Y/ N. I can feel his head. It's coming" Tracy said. "Okay" I reply. "Just relax, baby. It will soon be over and we will get to see our beautiful boy" Jack said. I get on all fours and push as that seemed to be the most comfortable position for now. Jack is by my side holding my hand and steadying me. Tracy is at the back ready to catch baby Joe when he comes out. We kept on telling me to push. "You're doing so well, Y/ N. Just a couple more pushes I reckon" she said

After a couple more pushes and finally baby Joe came into the world. He gave out a loud cry as soon as he was born. "Here we are. He's here. Well done, baby" Jack said. "Thank God" I say sounding out of breath. Tracy cleaned up Joe and wrapped him in a blanket that we choose out. The blanket Jack got for him actually. "Congratulations. He's beautiful" Tracy said handing our baby boy to us. "Awe. Look at him, Y/ N. He's so perfect" Jack said. "He is. It hurt like hell but I'm so glad he's here" I reply. "I know, baby. I can believe what you went through but our little Joe's here" Jack said kissing me. "He looks healthy but as I say to all my home birth patients. We will take him to the hospital for a check. Everything will be fine. I'll leave you two for a while to enjoy this moment" Tracy said. "Okay. Thank you" I reply. Jack and I hold baby Joe for a while before he had to go to the hospital for a check. He went and everything was absolutely fine. We could go home afterwards. I also had a go at feeding him too which went pretty well. I'm so glad I choose to gave birth in my own home. It was much more relaxing and calm. I'll definitely do it again if I have more kids. Jack and I are so happy that baby Joe is here safe and well and he is so adorable too. Awe we are so glad to be parents
