"I'm still waiting for the day chris becomes a dad. When would that be, maeve?"

Chris' cousin, who recently had a a baby, asked maeve. She wore a fake smile, as much as it hurt her, hoping his family would accept it. "I'm not sure. We've both been super busy," Maeve passed the baby back to their mom.

"I really wanted us to be pregnant together so our babies could be best friends. I'm definitely talking to chris, we need more babies in the family."

Good luck with talking to him

It was always like that when the evans family had a party. Every question directed to Maeve or chris would be about pregnancy. And each time, they would change the subject. After attending Scott's birthday one day, chris' mom asked her son if Maeve was unable to carry a child, which made chris sad that his mom would think that.

"I'm going to get more lemonade, does anyone want more?" Maeve asked, getting up from her seat. Chris noticed her movement and excused himself from his talk with his dad and friends. He went inside his parent's house and saw Maeve leaning against the counter, her empty glass beside her. "You have to tell them."

Chris made sure no one was around before talking about their divorce. "They'll say that I'm making a huge mistake."

Maeve looked at the ground, not wanting to look at him at the moment. "Do you?"

"Can we just have one day without arguing?" Chris pinched the bridge of his nose. "That's all I'm asking. Please."

Maeve chuckled. "Not arguing. Conversing." She grabbed the pitcher of lemonade from the fridge and pour herself a glass. "You either tell them or I will. It's simple."

"It's not simple. They all love you and accepted you into the family. Every single one of them loves you." Chris explained.

"Except you, apparently." Maeve said before leaving the kitchen and going back outside. Chris put his head in his hands, every talk they had ended the same. With Maeve claiming that Chris stopped loving her.

The silence in the kitchen was interrupted by scott clearing his throat. He slowly walked towards chris, still processing what he had just heard. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to listen in, but I was in the hallway and..." scott trailed off as chris sighed.

"Nobody knows, but you have the honor of being the first person so congratulations." Chris responded sarcastically.

"I mean, what can I say? I'm surprised. You two were the most perfect couple. What you two had was love." Scott said.

"You said it, what we had." Chris grabbed a beer from the fridge and opened it, nearly drinking the whole thing. "I just want her to be happy and if us not being together is what it takes for her to be happy then so be it."

"But she's not! She's not happy. Clearly, you're too dumb to see why she's not happy." Scott explained as he pointed at maeve with a fake smile plastered on her face surrounded by family. "You hardly ever have time for her. When you get home, she's asleep. She spends more time with dodger than her own husband. A dog, chris. A fucking dog."

"Hey, Dodger's great company." Chris scoffed. "She hardly ever spend time with me. Always at the office editing fucking magazines."

"Maeve got less hours, chris. Her boss told her that she had been working too much so he gave her some time off." Scott let out a sigh. "She told me this last month."

"See? She never tells me shit."

"Yeah, okay. Get home in the middle of the night, I wonder why she never tells you shit?" Scott flicked chris' forehead. "I got a friend in Hawaii. He can get you two a hotel."

"Why the fuck are you telling me this?" Chris asked.

"Because you two need time together and a fucking vacation too."
