"Ruby, why do you keep pushing me away?" I asked softly.

"I don't know." He grumbled back. "Just please get out of my house. I don't want to see you here."

I stared at him in shock. What the hell was his problem? Ever since I left to go on vacation during the summer, Ruby seemed to not like me at all. It was as if he was disgusted by me.

It was only the first week of school and I was surprised he was acting this way. We are very close friends but now, I'm not so sure.

"Alright, you suck." I muttered as I got up off his bed.

I walked out of his room and saw his Abuela. She gave me a sympathetic look as I gave her a smile. I hurriedly said goodbye and walked out of his home.

As I walked down the sidewalk, I could feel tears begging to escape. There was huge knot in my throat and I couldn't help but be mad at myself for crying over a stupid, hormonal Ruby.

He didn't deserve my tears!

When I caught sight of my house, I quickly jogged up the steps and went inside. My mom was in the kitchen starting dinner but I was in no mood to talk. I went inside and slammed by door shut, wishing to just be alone.

"(Y/n)?" A voice asked softly.

My eyes fluttered open as I saw my mom sitting beside me on my bed. I gave her a tired groan as she gave me a smile.

"Want to talk about it?" She asked. I sighed as I sat up.

"How do you always know when something's wrong?" I glared. She sighed while placing an arm around me.

"Because I love you, that's why." She said as if my question was the most absurd things she's ever heard. "I also know when something is going wrong in your life because I have felt the same way before. So talk to me." She reassured.

"Fine. Ruby has been ignoring me ever since we got back from vacation and I'm just so tired of his shi- crap. I'm tired of his crap." I said angrily. Mom raised an eyebrow at me before smirking.

"Watch ya mouth young lady." She replied before putting a sweet smile back on her face. "I get that. Maybe something happened? Or...."

I looked at her in confusion until it finally clicked in my head. I gasped loudly while playfully hitting my mom on her arm.

"Mom! He so doesn't like me."

"Mhmm. That's what I said about your dad." She said while rolling her eyes. I shook my head in amusement as questions ran through my head.

Does he like me? Is that why he's acting so distant?

"I should talk to him then. Maybe that's what he wants but can't do it himself." I thought out loud. Mom nodded at me as I got up from the bed.

"Go get your mans, hun!" She yelled as I ran out the door of the house. I laughed while jogging down the steps.

I stood in Ruby's room as he stared at me annoyed. I glared back at him, letting him know I was not going to play with his short little ass.

"What do you want?" He groaned while sitting up from his bed and leaning his head on his hand.

"You need to cut out with this bipolar shit." I said sternly. "What is up with you Ruby? I haven't seen you all summer and all I thought about was you. I couldn't wait to come home and tell you how much fun I had and hang out with you again. But instead, I get the Ruby who hates me for reasons that I don't know. So tell me, tell me what the hell is going on."

Ruby seemed shocked at my words as he sighed. I knew he felt bad for the way he was treating me.

"(Y/n)." He sighed guiltily. "I'm sorry. I don't know what going on. It's just... never mind I can't tell you."

"How can you apologize and still not tell me what's going on?! Your apology means nothing to me if you don't tell me what I have done wrong." I replied frustrated.

He quickly stood up from his bed and stepped towards me. I looked at him with a raised eyebrow before I felt his lips on mine.

I froze in shock before I kissed back. For some reason, I wanted this. He's supposed to be my friend and now I'm kissing him.

Talk about friends with benefits.

He wrapped both arms around my waist as he pulled me close to him. I placed my hands softly on his shoulders as he continued to kiss me.

Once we finally broke for air, I could see Ruby was just as shocked as I was. But his confused expression turned into a huge smile. I couldn't help but smile back at him.

"That's what was wrong." He whispered.
