chapter 29: the heartbreaking phonecall

Veronica's POV

Me and Archie are on our way to Petco to shop for a puppy, maybe even a kitten too

V- "I'm so excited!"

A- "I know. I've always wanted a dog"

We arrived and headed inside. We asked if we could take a look at the dogs

V- "Archie they're all so cute"

A- "I know"

Archie then came over and showed me this beautiful golden retriever puppy

A- "I think this one likes me, he won't leave me alone"

V- "Awe!"

It started to give me tons of kisses, it pretty much licked off all of my makeup

V- "Hi baby"

A- "The other dogs are pretty shy"

V- "I want this one!" I squealed

A- "Alright then, let's go adopt this little guy"

Archie went over to the owners and filled out some paperwork, while I started shopping.

Soon Archie came over to me with the puppy

A- "Alright, we're officially his new home"

V- "what else do we need for this little guy?"

A- "Some toys and treats"

We let the dog choose what it wanted, we made sure not to get anything it could choke on.

We payed for the stuff and headed out

A- "Alright little guy, welcome to your new home"

The dog immediately wanted to play, so Archie opened up it's new toys and let him play

V- "So what are we going to name our little guy?"

A- "Hmm. What about buddy?"

V- "Too common"

A- "Varchie?"

V- "That's our name!"

A- "Archie JR?"

V- "Do I even have to answer that"

A- "My dad has always liked the name Vegas"

V- "I love it. Vegas Andrews"

A- "Come here Vegas!"

The dog just looked at Archie confused

V- "He'll catch onto it soon enough"

A- "Should we let him on the furniture?"

V- "Yeah, I don't want to be one of those owners that's unfair to the dog"

A- "You're right"

V- "Do you want to go on the couch and cuddle?"

A- "Don't have to ask me twice"

I cuddled up to Archie and he turned on the Tv. We watched it for about an hour then he got a call. I got up so he could and he went to answer it.

A- "Mom?"

M- "Archie I need you to come to the hospital"

A- "Why is everything okay?"

I stood up and went over to Archie. I lipped "what happend" and he shrugged

M- "It's your dad. He-he had a heart attack"

M- "They don't think he's going to make it"

A- "We'll be there as soon as possible. Stay strong mom!"

He hung up my phone

V- "Is everything okay?"

A- "My dad had a heart attack. They don't think he's gonna make it" Archie had tears coming from his eyes

V- "Let's go to the hospital"

Archie panicked the whole way there. He was even crying

We ran through the hospital doors. Mary was sitting in the waiting room.

A- "We got here as soon as we could. How's he doing mom?"

M- "I don't know. They won't tell me anything"

V- "Mary if there is anything I can do to help let me know please"

M- "Oh Veronica, in afraid this time there isn't anything you can do"

I called our friends and told them to come to the hospital asap in case we had to say goodbye

Jughead and his dad arrived, so did Betty and her family. Shortly after Katy and Toni arrived

Fp and Fred are bestfriends, that explains why Jughead and Archie are such good friends

J- "How are you holding up Arch"

A- "I'm scared, I don't want to lose him. I feel like I've failed him somehow"

J- "You didn't. There's nothing you could've done"

We all sat there talking for a bit. I called my parents and told them what was happening

Soon a doctor came over to Mary and Archie. They stood up immediately.

M- "How is he doc?"

DM- "You might want to sit down."

DM- "I'm sorry but, he didn't make it. His heart couldn't handle the stress. We did everything we could"

I rubbed Archie's back while he sobbed on my shoulder. Everyone was crying at this point

M- "Thank you doc."

DM- "I'll give you some time alone"

Everyone was hugging and crying and just overall a mess. Fred treated me like his own daughter, I didn't even know him that long

Then the news and reporters started to show up

A- "We should go home and get some rest"

V- "Yeah. I'm sorry for your loss Mrs Andrew's"

Mary was historical. I think she took it the hardest. Betty cried in Jugheads arms, and Cheryl in Toni's.

We got in our car, rushing past reporters and paparazzis

The car ride home was silent. We were greeted by our bundle of joy Vegas

Archie picked him up, the dog could sense his sadness so started giving him kisses everywhere

I got his bowl out and put food in it. Archie had just taken him for a walk, since we were in an apartment he had to go for walks.

A- "Oh look boy mom made you some dinner"

V- "Does dad want dinner?

A- "No thanks, im not hungry"

V- "I mean at a time like this I'm not either"

A- "I can't believe he's gone"

V- "Me neither, but if you need anything don't be afraid to ask"

He came over to me and gave me a short kiss. He picked me up and took me to bed. We just layed in eachother arms for a while.

Vegas was trying to get up, he was only four months old so we had to help him up

A- "Good boy"

V- "I love you Archie. I'm sorry about your dad"

A- "I love you too, dad wouldn't want me to be sad."
