It may have been a hot minute since you finished book one, so here's a recap!

Cassie Carmichael--our beloved 22-year-old heroine--meets Prince Coleman at her family's souvenir shop in Washington D.C. She doesn't know he's a prince, and she's not a fan of Coleman's less-than-pleasant attitude. Since her family owns the place, she kicks him out of the shop! Because hey, it's not like her parents are going to fire her.

Besides, the next day, Cassie leaves to start her year abroad in the country Aregano (Arr-eh-gah-noh). However, her housing falls through, and she finds herself homeless and virtually penniless until a mysterious limo pulls up next to her and she is offered a job as a maid at the royal palace.

So Cassie hightails it to the castle the next morning and meets the butler, Lucas Prescott, only to find that he isn't an old crotchety Butler man and is instead some gorgeous guy that looks like he belongs in a boy band. The butler says she can just call him Luke instead of Lucas, which most people don't get to call him (a fairly important-ish detail for later).

Cassie meets the Prince, and surprise surprise it's the jerk from her store! Her sudden job offer was all due to Prince Coleman's strange and confusing revenge scheme. She is sassy towards him, as is a common and reoccurring theme throughout book 1, but he lets her keep the job anyway.

Cassie meets the Chef, Chef Jonathan, who thinks she is cute. Cassie is confronted by some maids at lunch, who accuse her of being some ratchet hoe because she is serving the Prince and they are tots jelly, but she's all like "nah fam I hate that loser Prince." And then all the boys in the castle are like o.O because she isn't a Prince Coleman fan girl plus she's pretty so that's all they need apparently.

Then Cassie ends up helping serve Prince Coleman's little sister, Princess Calista (age 15), who is pretty bratty, and neither Cassie nor Calista are fans of the other. Princess Calista has a crush on Luke (I mean, he's a babe tbh so can't blame her) and Cassie's all "rawr" about it but that's a minor subplot that isn't that important.

Cassie talks to her friend Lydia on the phone who's all like "yeah that Prince guy sounds like a jerk!" but then Lydia sees a picture of him and is like "wow he pretty hot tbh" and low key changes her tune. Please note that Prince Coleman is very handsome...it's why he gets away with so much nonsense (plus the money and the royal title and all that).

Anyways, Cassie confirms that Prince Coleman is a player, which surprised literally nobody. That weekend she has Sherry (her only female friend because she doesn't want to kill Cassie) cover her shift for the Prince while she goes on a castle tour. It's kind of a dumb thing for her to waste her time doing but who am I to judge?  Well apparently Prince Coleman is one to judge and he crashes her tour and is all like "you're so dumb but I'm going to hold your hand now and take you on a tour myself." He sends a lot of mixed signals...which is also a reoccurring theme.

Anyways, they're in the garden but of course there are 10,000 people there and they all want to see Prince Coleman so Cassie just yeets herself on out of there and ditches the Prince. She hangs out with some cute guy named Ethan who is low key kind of irrelevant but he mentions this "Marstella Incident" thing and she's all like "ooh what's that" and he's all "it's a secret." Then, she meets this gardener kid (age 16) named Charlie who's all gossipy and stuff so they have a good time as one can imagine.

After the weekend is over, Cass & Luke are serving at Prince Coleman's pool party. The party consists of Coleman and three chicks that Cassie thinks looks like Barbies. One includes Lady Madeline Rylin, who is not exactly Cassie's biggest fan. Madeline is all rude to Cassie so Prince Coleman's like "yo Cassie why don't you dry me and my glistening abs off with a towel" just to be a punk to the Barbies. Anyways, Cassie and Luke are in the middle of a cutesy moment at the pool party when Coleman starts being all mean to Cassie because the Barbies were making fun of him for being nice to her. He's a very prideful person and it really gets in the way of things to be honest.
