"There's no need to hide the tears.."

It was a dark night, the city lights flashed vehemently and almost blinded her eyes. People gather from one place to another and some wear expensive clothes to distinguish their status while some remain low and kept mostly to themselves.

It was a dark night, the best time for man-eating monsters to wreck havoc and feast on innocent humans as they devour them. The metallic scent of blood lingered in the air while humans remained oblivious to their surrounding.

"Don't you think that they live a lonely existence?"

Her voice was soft and gentle, the words flowing from her mouth went out smoothly and from the way she carried herself in a confident manner, one could tell that she was a woman of high class.

The person behind her didn't respond and kept quiet, refusing to answer.

Her lips quirked to the side as she stretcher her right hand forward towards the sky.

"It's so, so sad. To be able to live that long while silently fearing for your life. It's really sad. " She said in a much calmer voice as if talking about the weather.

The person behind her shifted, looking mildly annoyed but curious.

"What are you trying to say?"

It seemed as if she stood for a long while without answering but in reality, the delay was only a few seconds. Her head whipped to glance behind as her dark purple eyes met with plum iris.

Her eyes beamed and a sad smile slowly graced her lips before speaking.

"Demons, I mean." She turned to face him fully, a sad expression on her face.

"Demons are sad creatures. They have the ability to live a long life yet they could easily disappear and turn to dust once the sun rises from the horizon. They only roam during the night and what's more, they depend on humans to survive."

"What?" The person managed to say to her, a somewhat annoyed look on his pale face as he looked at her with a severe gaze.

It was absurd. The notion that someone as superior as a demon needed to depend on such weak beings felt like such an offensive insult to someone like him. This woman knew nothing and although she seem completely like an interesting person, she was talking nonsense.

"You don't look like you believe me. " She said, a patient edge to her voice.

"But I know I'm right. "

His eyes narrowed. The audacity of this woman...!

"Because demons need to eat human flesh in order to live."

She turned her back to him before slowly removing the sword on her waist from its hilt. The action was so normal that the person she was talking to failed to realize her next set of actions. Afterall, she looked like a naive human that it would be almost too easy to devour her.

"I mean, humans are the only sustenance that could sate a demon's hunger. Without our existence, demons won't even exist in the first place. "Then she let out a small chuckle. "And there's also the fact that demons used to be humans in the first place."

She then turned her head half way to spare the person a glance.

"They really are quite sad. Living such a lonely existence. "

In a flash, she drew her blade, letting the red color shine under the moonlight. His eyes widened a friction when he felt the cold metal against his neck, slowly slicing the skin as the woman pushed further.

Before she could behead him, her sword was knocked away from her hands and she was thrown harshly on the ground.

She coughed the dust away and struggled to sit up.

"You're stronger than the rest. I think I have a high possibility of dying a gruesome death tonight. It's almost exciting!" She exclaimed enthusiastically when she managed to stand.

He merely looked on as if he couldn't be bothered by her words.

She really was a naive woman afterall. Although she was an excellent swordsman, she was young and inexperienced. The defiant gaze and stance she boldly displayed to spite him said a lot about her unyielding personality.

What bothered him was the gaze she held as she stared at him. It was innocent, and not the usual gaze filled with anger and hatred.

He couldn't understand. She was defenseless right now and she knew she could get easily killed.

Why was she looking at him in that way?

"You don't seem to understand your position right now." He said.

She tilted her head to the side. "I do. In fact, it's fine. I know you won't kill me."

"What makes you think I'll spare you?"

She smiled. "Ah. There you go. If you end up asking me a question like that, then I'll have to answer. "She went to move a stray lock of hair away from her face before speaking.

"You find me amusing. And you need something. It's the most logical answer."

Amusing? She sounded so confident and sure with her answer that it was annoying. She also didn't stopped smiling.

Before he could speak up, she cut him off.

"I mean, you're interested too, right?" She asked sweetly.

Her next set of words made his eyes widened.

"About the blue spider lillies?"

In the blink of an eye, she was pinned to the ground as a hand held her neck in a tight manner.

Her purple eyes met with glowing crimson that stared intensely at her. Staring at them made goosebumps rise on her skin and she felt as if she couldn't look away.

"What do you know about them?"

The woman could only managed to quirk her lips to the side as if daring him.

It was a dark night, a night where man-eating monsters roam the night and as a demon himself, he knew that this human was one of a kind.

Those eyes with childlike innocence would forever hunt him and he knows that he would never be able to forget the words she said to him.
