Weekend

Ring ring, ring ring!

Zelda picked up her phone and answered it. It was Midna who was calling.

"Zelda, I heard from Link's friend's sister that you gave Link your phone number. What the fuck."
"I'm at chess club, call me later."
"Honestly Zelda, just because your dad makes you sign up for these things doesn't mean you have to actually go to them. You could come to my house or something. Want me to come pick you up?"
"What are you talking about? Pick me up how?"
"My brother can take me to get you, duh."
"Right."
"We're coming right now."
"Midna! I never agreed to tha-"

Midna hung up on her before she could finish. Zelda sighed and raised her hand to tell the teacher that she would be getting picked up soon.

After a minute or two, the office called down for Zelda, and she left. As she got into Midna's brother's car, she told her, "I hope my dad doesn't hear about this."
"Yeah, I sympathize with you. Your dad must be the only white parent around here to beat their kid."
"Midna!"
"What? I'm black, I can say that."
"That doesn't make it any better."
"If you say so."

Zelda just rolled her eyes and looked out the window. They got to Midna's house quickly, and they all went inside. The two girls went straight to Midna's bedroom.

"So, is it true that you gave Link your phone number?"
"Yes, but that was this morning. How did you find out so quickly?"
"I told you, I know Sean's sister."
"Is Sean Link's friend?"
"No shit. So why did you do that?"
"Link's dad is abusive."
"So I was wrong, then."
"Yes. Anyway, that was a stupid statement."
"That still doesn't explain why you gave hin your-"
"I wanted to keep in touch with him, okay? To make sure he's okay."
"I guess that makes sense. I'm gonna tell the others."
"Urbosa already knows."
"Seriously?"
"I knew that you and Mipha would freak out. Honestly, Urbosa and I are the only sane people in this friend group."

Midna started typing furiously on her phone, and Zelda almost immediately got a notification in her phone.

Mid: hey guys guess what Zelda gave Link her phone number and she said that it was because his dad is abusive and she was worried about him
Miph: WHAT?
Mid: calm down geez
Miph: calm down? This is serious! He could be hurt right now! Zelda was right to let him contact her
U: she's got a point
Mid: also Zelda said that she already told Urbosa cuz apparently me and Mipha would freak out
U: she was right
U: that's exactly whats happening right now
Miph: how are you guys so calm about this!?
Mid: hey fish sticks was that exclamation mark really neccessary
Miph: it was absolutely necessary and also don't call me fish sticks I am not a fish
Mid: you look like one
Miph: how on earth can a human look like a fish
Mid: I dunno but you somehow pull it off
U: why does this always happen
Z: yeah really
Miph: it always happens because Midna is an instigator and always annoys me
Miph: anyways Zelda tell us more about Link
Z: midna don't say anything
Mid: I wasn't going to but okay
Z: I literally just saw you typing!
Mid: I was not typing
Z: yes you were!
Miph: guys!
Z: right
Z: so anyway, you know how I told you all that I came across link with a bloody nose the other day
Mid: yeah
Miph: yes?
Z: well he was actually knocked out and lying on the ground
Miph: oh no!
Z: yeah that was my reaction
Z anyway I helped him and I brought hin to my house
Z: he stayed at my house for the night
Z: when we had dinner he ate like he was a starving man
Z: he actually ate 3 servings of spaghetti and his plate was completely full and almost overflowing every time
Miph: wow
Mid: what a glutton
Z: so he stayed the night
Mid: which I think is stupid
Z: midna he got beat up by his father
Z: he couldnt go home
Z: he was terrified
Z: I saw him cry like a baby with my own two eyes
Miph: oh, poor thing!
Mid: crybaby
Z: Midna this is very serious!
Z: anyway his dad got mad that he wasn't at home that night so he didn't let him out of the house yesterday or today
Miph: oh no!
Mid: he had school
U: okay I haven't heard this part
Z: so I stopped by his house and gave him my phone number
Z: and I guess he told Sean, who told his sister, who told Midna
Mid: yup
Miph: is there any way I could help
Z: I'll think about it for a moment and get back to you, k?
Miph: okay

"Now I need to brainstorm ways to help Link without getting him into too much trouble."

"We literally just talked about this."

"Wait, don't we have an essay to write?"
"Don't change the subject!"

"Yes, but I already did it. Have you?"
"No. I should probably start."
"I can't believe you'd rather write an essay than talk about Link."
"It's easy for me to believe."
"You can be really annoying sometimes, you know that?"
