part 16: whatever it takes?

Your pov.

"So?..." I ask. "Yes...I want him back too" he smiles at me. "Whatever it takes?" "Whatever it takes" he kisses me softly. "We'll go to the compound in the morning we'll leave Morgan with happy but for now let's go and get some sleep" "okay tony" we walk upstairs and head to bed.

The next day.

I walk into Morgan's room. "Morgan. Honey wake up you've got to stay with happy for a while. We have to pack a bag" "no mommmyyy" "god she's already a teenager come on up" I pull of her blankets. She turns and stuffs her head in the pillow. "Don't you want to see uncle happy today?" "Yeah" she mumbled into the pillow. "Well then we need to get up" I start packing her back with clothes. We dont know how long we'll be at the compound so we're packing a bag and getting happy to watch her until we get back. I finish packing and she finally gets up and dressed and we go downstairs to see tony cooking pancakes. "Morning sleepy head" he says to morgan she giggles. "Morning daddy" I take the pan and carry on making the pancakes. "Are you excited to stay with happy?" He asks she nods. "Uh huh happy's fun. Where are you and mommy going?" She asks. He looks at me as I put the pancakes on the plate. "We're going to get Peter back" he says. "Really? Can I see him when he comes back can I daddy?" She begs. "Of course you can" he says. "Come on let's eat" he carries her to the table. "When are you and mommy coming back?" "Well honey we aren't sure yet" I say. "But you are coming back right?" "Of course we are" tony says and smiles.i glare at Tony. He mouths "what was I supposed to say I dont know" "we cant lie to her Tony" "do you think she needs to know her mom or dad might not come back from this" "oh yeah well what if we dont what then she'll be even more distraught than she would be already" I get up and tony follows Morgan continues eating. "What did you mean?" He whispers. "Tony I meant it's a possibility one of us could not come back I...i don't want her to get hurt" he hugs me. "And she wont need to be" we walk back out and see she's finished I grab her hairbrush and start brushing her hair out. Will we come back? Will we actually get back to Morgan like we promised? I don't think we should have promised her that we would.i cant say that we'll live through this. That we'll be able to see her again. I can only hope that we do. We drop off Morgan. "Bye morgan I love you" I say and kiss her head and hug her like it's that time i ever will. Because. It just might be. "Love you too mommy" "i love you three thousand honey" tony smiles widely at her and hugs her too. "I love you too daddy" we drive off to the compound with Steve's shield in the trunk. "Do you think he'll take it?" Tony asks. "What?" "Steve do you think he'll take the shield back?"

Flashback

Steve pulls the shield out of Tony's arc reactor and I rush over to him. "That doesn't belong to you. My father made that shield!" Tony shouts. Steve looks at bucky who is currently on his arm,then at the ground where he drops the shield and walks away.

Present day

"I don't know. I think he'll want it. It reminded him of the 40s when he was the hope for America. For everyone he was the golden boy the one to save them all. Star spangled man with a plan you know? It just like when you were at the conference with the senator"

Flashback

I sat on the seat next to tony. While hammer talked his mouth off kissing the ghost ass of howard stark. "He was a lion we all know why we're here. In the last six months Anthony Stark has created a sword with untold possibilities. And yet, he insists it's a shield. He asks us to trust him as we cower behind it. I wish I were comforted, Anthony, I really do. I'd love to leave my door unlocked when I leave the house, but this ain't Canada. You know, we live in a world of grave threats, threats that Mr Stark will not always be able to foresee. Thank you. God bless Iron Man. God bless America" "that is well said mr hammer.the committee would like to invite colonel James Rhodes to the chamber" "Rhodey?" Me and tony say. He walks in and tony gets up to greet him. So do I. "Oh hey buddy wasn't expecting you here" I say. "Look, it's me, I'm here. Deal with it. Let's move on" "I just..." "just drop it" "fine fine we'll drop it" "I have before me a complete report on the Iron Man weapon, complied by Colonel Rhodes. And, Colonel, for the record, can you please read page 57, paragraph four?" Stern says. "Not a weapon" I mumble. "You're requesting that I read specific selections from my report, Senator?" Rhodes asks."Yes, sir" he replies. "It was my understanding that I was going to be testifying in a much more comprehensive and detailed manner" "I understand. A lot of things have changed today. So if you could just read..." he means we stuck up for ourselves and iron man. "You do understand that reading a single paragraph out of context does not reflect the summery of my final..." stern interrupts. Again. "Just read it, Colonel. I do. Thank you." "Very well. I pull out my stark industries hacker and hack into screen I see tony doing the same. "Oh it's on stark" I whisper he grins. "indicating that these suits are quite possibly, at this moment, operational" Rhodey continues. "Sorry Rhodes I'm gonna cut you off a little short" I point it at the screen and the screen now says welcome ms l/n. "Oh boy I've still got it. If everyone will direct their attention to the screens I believe that's north Korea" a video begins to play of a larger looking suit and bullets flying everywhere the camera falls to the ground blood stained. "Iran" tony continues. A suit that can fly and also crash to the ground and burn. Another video begins to play and we see justin hammer himself. "No grave threat there.And is that justin hammer. How did hammer get in the game" he gets up amd starts trying to stop the footage. "Hey hammer you're on tv focus up" the video is of a man in a suit and it seems to be going well until he has to turn to the right when you hear an excruciatingly loud crack and a scream. And also hammer saying. "Oh shit. Oh shit" (language how many times do I need to tell you seriously)then he finally unplugs the tv. "I'd like to point out that the test pilot survived" he sits back down."Wait just a sec let me get something straight. Justin hammer is calling iron man a and I quote a sword with untold possibilities yet he wants one huh? I'm trying to think of a word and it rhymes with grass mole I can't put my finger on it" the crowd laughs. (Happy cap are you happy now? "Because he is your nuclear deterrent.It's working. We're safe. America is secure. You want his property? You can't have it. But he did you a big favour" I stand up and turn to the crowd.
