Earth (Ieur)

I remember when I first arrived on Earth. It was dark, when I looked up I could see the stars; but I couldn’t identify the one I had just left. I couldn’t hear much, there were no vehicles this far from an inhabited area, just the breeze rustling the leaves on the bushes and nearby trees; even so it would take a few days for my hearing to adjust.

I took a deep breath and coughed. I tried not to choke on the smell; it was so strong I could taste it. I hadn’t expected to encounter the odour of pollution in my isolated landing site.

My watch beeped, letting me know that it was time to move, I had been standing still too long. I turned around and picked up my cases, there were three and between them they contained everything I was going to need to start life here on Earth. With my cases in hand I turned around for one last look at my landing site, and a look up at the stars – I still couldn’t identify the Zelothian System, my home.

“Stop thinking like that! Earth is your home now! Better get a move on Zehira my girl; your triunnga again.”

I thought, using my name for potentially the last time before my 250th birthday. Fishing my tactical map out of my backpack, I worked out which direction I was supposed to be moving in and set out.

At my first marked camp site, once my tent was erected, I opened my smallest case and retrieved my Interactive Display Unit. I relayed a message back to Duteran Unbe—Ripill Oomeb informing them that I am in position.

My orders arrived within seconds.

I ate a ration pack while I read over my orders. There was no point integrating myself into Earth society until I had done so for Yanaro, Abela, Pobea, and Jinoquio. I knew when I accepted this post that my Phynsae cover was going to be overseeing the deployment of other Phynsae already on Earth, as well as the new arrivals.

As dawn approached I took a quick walk around my camp and switched on the reflector units which would bounce any Earth scans back at the people directing them; hiding my presence. Looking around again I could see the lights of Chester they looked like stars, if stars were sometimes red and green. They had an ethereal quality, like Fairy Lights.
