Marian's dad -->
"Wait what?! My birthday isn't until November." I exclaimed very confused.

"I am sorry to say that we do not have that much time. You will turn 18 on June 5th, you will regain your tail, and you will return with me to rule over North Pacific Kingdom."  he said to me as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"Wait just a minute even if any of what you're saying is true, which I'm not saying it is, what makes you think I'll come with you?" I ask. 

"But you must! You can not just abandon you're people!" he exclaims sounding desperate.

"They're not my people I apparently left and probably for good reason! I'm not going back there even if I do get fins. I'm sure there is someone else more qualified to rule." I say in disbelief. 

"You do not understand you-"

"I said no!" I say not letting him finish.I can't believe I'm having this conversation. I can't lead people!

"Fine but at least let me give you my number so you can contact me once the change starts." he says getting his own phone out.

"Alright." I cave taking my own phone out. We swapped phone and I put my number in his and he did the same to mine.

"Wait didn't you just come to land? How do you have a phone?" I ask handing him his phone.

"Well I first came to land a year ago, after I had discovered your location. I wanted to be acclimated to land when I did finally meet you. So I got a phone, a place to live, and some human currency." he explains.
"Okay...can I go now?" I ask wanting to just go home.

"Yes but remember to call me if anything strange or out of the ordinary happens." he says.

"Like what?" I ask wondering what might happen if what he's telling me is true.

"Well if you start hearing a weird buzzing noise in your ear, feel any pain or discomfort in your legs, or you start having unusual dreams." he says.

"Okay well when none of those things happen you have to leave me alone?" I ask wanting to make sure that this guy won't be some kind of stalker later. 

"Alright if none of those things happen in the next 2 months I will leave you alone, but if one or more of those things happen you have to agree to let me teach you about our people's ways. You don't have to agree to come back to the kingdom, though you should, you just have to let me teach you." he says clearly trying to compromise. I thought about his offer and there were pros and cons to this deal. I can't help but think that he just might be true, but he can't be he just can't be, so there's no harm in agreeing to his conditions. Right?

"Alright I accept your conditions." I say holding my hand out for him to shake.

"Alright well I must go but I will be seeing you." he says shaking my hand.

"Don't count on it. Bye." I say turning to leave.

"Goodbye princess." he says doing the same. As I left I checked the time and found out that this conversation lasted for almost an hour. My dad was going to be pissed. I ran home as fast as I could and found my father waiting for me with a disapproving look on his face.

"Hey dad. How's it going?" I say trying to sound innocent.

"Oh no don't you dare give me that I want an explanation young lady." he says gesturing for me to sit down of the couch which I did.

"I got caught up talking to this guy that-" I start but he interrupts me.

"Wait you have a boyfriend?" he asks surprised.

"What?! No absolutely not! This guy claims that he knew mom." I say but instantly regretting it when I see the look on my dad's face.

"What? He said that he knows your mother? Does he know where she is? Is she okay?" he asks hopefully.  

"Dad I don't even know if this guy is telling the truth! So anything he said to me can't be trusted!" I say trying to change the subject. I shouldn't have said anything about my mom.

"Marian what did he say?" he asks firmly. I really didn't want to tell him about what Nathaniel said about mom. Hell I didn't believe any of what he said about me but he deserves to know. So I explained to him what Nathaniel said everything except about any of that crazy mermaid stuff. 

"Cecilia is dead? How? What happened?" he asks. I noticed that he called mom by the same name that Nathaniel did. Maybe there was something to his story. 

"He never said how she died, just that it happened a few days ago. I'm sorry I don't know anymore." I say wishing I had asked Nathaniel that same question. The look on his face was unreadable I had no idea how he was feeling. He just went to the living room and sat on the couch.

"I can't believe this. I don't even know how to react." he says.

"Dad I don't even know if this is true." I say trying to cheer him up. He didn't seem to hear me he was in his own little world. Then he looked me right in the eye and I saw the deep sadness he felt. I had never seen him this way before.

"You look a lot like her you know?" he finally says.

"I do?" I asked.

"Yeah except for the hair and eyes you get that from me." he says almost proudly.

"I see. Will you tell me about her?" I ask hoping the answer was yes. He almost never talked about her so I don't really know anything about her.

"Yeah sure. She was beautiful beyond belief and very kind. You could tell that every guy that crossed her path wanted her but she didn't even seem to notice at all. She wasn't coincided she was actually quite shy., but she had this regal air about her. She was never bossy or commanding she was just her in every way. That's why I loved her. She never seemed fake just herself it was refreshing." he says looking off to the side almost in his own little world.

"She sounds amazing." I say.

"She was" he replies.

"How did you two meet?" I ask hoping he would actually tell me this time. 

"It's a funny story actually. I was a lifeguard down at Surfer's Beach and my shift was almost up and I saw her stumbling down the beach constantly walking a few steps falling down and getting back up and doing the whole thing over like she'd never walked a day in her life. So like the helpful lifeguard I am I went over and asked if she was okay, while trying to not burst out laughing. And she looked up at me and said 'If I required your assistance I would have asked for it. I am quite capable of walking but thank you for the offer.' and I just kind of looked t her and my brilliant reply was 'Uh...okay then.' And I walked away."

"Is that it?" I ask.

"Not by a long shot." he says and continues his story.
