"Y/N!" Herobrine shouts, reaching the bottom of the staircase to find an empty hall. "Y/N?" A Nether portal hums at the end of the hallway, and as he examines it he spots a diamond sword lying discarded on the ground. Not a good sign.

It only takes him a moment to cross through the portal, then search the immediate area for his wife. No sign of her. Turning back, he enters the portal again and retrieves the sword from the ground, examining it. It's hers, the hilt has been slightly modified to accommodate her smaller hands.

Putting it in his inventory, he turns on his heel and heads up the stairs. He heard her cry out, she hadn't gone intentionally. He needs to get back to the manor and send out the Endermen to look for her, as soon as he leaves that message for Alex.

"Steve?" A feminine voice startles him, and he whirls around to see a red-haired woman in the hall behind him. Her eyes widen, and she whips out a sword, jabbing it at his chest. "Explain yourself."

"I'm looking for Steve." Slowly, he raises his hands. He's not afraid of Alex, not by any stretch of the imagination, but he'd rather not pick a fight with her when she could be a valuable ally. "He's disappeared, and I came here to ask if you might know where he went."

"I don't. But if I did, I wouldn't tell you." She lowers the sword an inch, green eyes locked on his. "Why do you care?"

"My wife would have my head if I didn't go looking for him." Alex blinks, and a chuckle escapes her.

"You're married now?"

"As of a few months ago, yes."

"Well, congratulations. But that's not a free pass for you to just wander around my base."

"I apologize. I was trying to find her, as she just disappeared in much the same manner as Steve did."

"Your wife?" He nods. "Well, having to hang out around you all the time, who can blame her?" Herobrine fixes her with a glare, and she sighs, dropping her sword to her side. "Oh, fine. I'll keep an eye out for them. Need anything else while I'm being nice?"

"No. Thank you." Backing away, Herobrine bows his head before teleporting back to the Nether. He'd rather not have to interact with her any more than he could help.

Manfred is at his side a moment after he appears, questioning Y/N's absence, and he responds,

".reh rof hcraes em pleh dna srehto eht yllaR .enog s'ehS" The Enderman nods and disappears, and Herobrine makes a beeline for a table covered in loose papers. Reaching for a map, he pauses upon spotting a book under a pile of documents. One of Notch's changelogs. Did he have something to do with this?

Grabbing the map, Herobrine straightens up. If he doesn't find Y/N and Steve soon, Notch is his next stop.

You let out a startled yelp as the door to your cell abruptly swings open.

"Up and at 'em." Entity 303 pokes his head in, the red glow from his eyes illuminating his face. "We need to talk."

"Why?" You squint up at him, leaning your chin in your hand. "I mean, not that it wouldn't be more fun than sitting here in the dark, but why? What do you want with me?"

"Let's just say I'm interested in a trade." 303 leans against the doorframe. "I'll tell you about me if you'll tell me about you. How's that?" You raise an eyebrow at him.

"Only if you go first."

"Fair enough." He offers you a hand, but you ignore it, struggling to your feet on your own. You step towards the door, but stop.

"And I want to see Steve."

"I told you, he's fine." The man steps out of the doorway, nodding down the hall. "Come on."

"Nope. You're gonna let me see him with my own two eyes, or I'm not telling you a thing." You plant your feet, crossing your arms over your chest. 303 stares at you for a few moments, probably weighing whether or not it was worth fighting over, before letting out a drawn-out sigh and stepping back.

"Fine." He extends a hand down the hallway. "Right this way, your highness."

"You really don't have to do that." You brush past him.

"Do what?"

"Mock me."

"I'm not mocking you, I'm demonstrating my respect for the queen of the Nether." Coming up behind you, he pokes at your crown - just a small tiara clipped to your hair. You smack his hand away.

"If you respected me, you'd keep your hands to yourself."

"Maybe." As you pass another iron door, he stops and gestures to it. "Here." You turn as he waves a hand at it, and the door flies open with a bang. Apparently he has no subtlety when it comes to entrances.

Taking a hesitant step closer, you spy a body against the far wall, and lean past your captor to get a better look. The figure raises his head, and you recognize Steve, chained to the wall by his wrists and gagged with a strip of fabric.

"Steve!" You duck past 303, who grabs after you but misses, and fall to your knees at your friend's side.

"I said see him, not have a full-fledged reunion!" 303 complains, but you ignore him, reaching for the gag to try and untie it.

"Are you okay? What happened to you?" You ramble, starting to work at the knot behind his head. 303 sighs, but doesn't stop you as Steve offers you a tight smile. When you get the knot free, you pull the cloth away, and the miner takes a deep breath as he leans forward.

"I'm fine." He assures you, voice slightly rougher than normal due to the lack of use. "I'm not hurt, just very well-contained." He rattles his wrists in their chains, and you throw your arms around him, burying your face in his shoulder. You can feel his body relax a bit underneath you, and he rests his chin on your arm. A few seconds pass, then 303 clears his throat loudly.

"About done?"

"Shut your stupid face." Your voice cracks, and you give Steve a squeeze.

"Are you okay?" He whispers. "How did he get you?"

"Ambushed me when me and Herobrine were looking for you." You take a deep breath. "He just locked me up. He hasn't tried to hurt me yet."

"And I don't plan to, unless you give me a reason." 303 cuts in. "So get on your feet before I have to drag you." You let out a sigh, then sit back on your knees, letting go of him.

"What's the point, anyway? Why are you keeping him prisoner here?" You glare at 303 over your shoulder, and he shrugs.

"I told you we'd trade questions, if you want to stop stalling and come with me." Glowering, you pick yourself up off the floor, and throw one last look at Steve before turning and exiting the cell. 303 glances at the discarded gag on the floor, but apparently decides it's not worth it and steps out, letting the door slam shut again.

"Come on, it's not very far." Without even looking at you, 303 turns and starts heading down the passage again. Heaving a sigh, you hug your arms to your chest and follow, the cold air biting at your skin as you make your way down the hallway into the dark.
