~19~ Double-Sided Mind

~Billy's POV~

Freddy. Was angry. Very, angry. We watched from the cafeteria as something happened the minute Y/n turned to that other group. And they believe she recorded it which fired him up. If it wasn't for me, he would've lost it.

But I think something happened to Y/n there. Like, something double-minded. First she becomes uncomfortable and all of a sudden she's okay to talk and chat with those bullies. She told me it wasn't a big deal but I have a very bad vibe that her darkness element slipped her up or took control or something because that just has to happen at some point.

I could tell from the look her eyes shifted and just went...dull. I wanted to snap her out of it so bad because bad news: She spent time with them at lunch, too. She went back to normal in the middle of classes though, that's what's confusing me.

I think the darkness feeds on negative popularity. Negative attention. Being Greedy. Because that's the same energy that Brett, Burke and that whole group were giving her.

This isn't something Y/n would normally do, so obviously it will be opposite to her. And wanna know the worst part?

She doesn't remember any of it. Any of the moments that she talks with them when her eyes went dull.

She had blackouts.

That's what she told me.

Sure, it's scaring me but I feel like it would really hurt her and I don't know, make her shut down if I told her that it did so I kept my mouth shut. What I did do though is since she has last class with me, I pulled her out of the school zone as quick as possible, met up with Freddy and his family and we went our separate ways. She didn't get a chance to show me what was up.

So I have a plan tomorrow. No way in hell am I risking the chance for her to have another blackout that's new to the list of Darkness Problems and giving herself the wrong attention. I'll give her the right attention instead, going out to the city as our superheroes and cheer her up in the process. I'll think about going to the cafeteria alone. However.

One final problem.

"All hands on deck."

Freddy hasn't talked to me since the first break. And he's stayed silent the whole night. So it's dinner time, hopefully, he can speak up tonight. And not get annoyed. Because he does indeed look irritated even though he is able to hide it from the rest of his family.

I don't put my hand in the middle but I notice that Freddy glares at me. What?

"Thank you for this family. Thank you for this day. Thank you for this food. Sorry Billy's hand is on vacay."

They all pull away and I stay completely silent as I pick up a fork. It's the same thing over and over except this time, Freddy is quiet in a way that's actually uncomfortable. I'm also worried about Y/n, still.

"Big news in Philly. We got two costumed heroes." Victor announces. Yep. This definitely perked an interesting topic for Freddy. "Both of them are doing good."

Remember when Y/n sunk into the chair that night? Yeah, now it was my turn. Freddy actually smirks at me. Why is he acting like this!? I thought we were friends!!

"Yeah, but, are they though?" Eugene asks. Darla glances over at him like she knows the whole world exists. Please stay quiet Darla, please stay quiet.

"Ooh! Controversy. Into it."

Out of it.

Eugene ironically sitting next to a smirking Freddy, I unintentionally roll my eyes. When we were talking about how Freddy loved Maya so much this morning for missing Y/n and making up a story about her being Dog Wonder, he oddly ignored her this afternoon and he's wearing darker clothes than what he does for his usual blue. Does he have some mystery secret too?
