40. When I Look At You
When I look at you
I see you smile
and stare into my eyes.
It was an intoxicating feeling
Which still leaves me craving.
When I look at you
Our hands are intertwined
together.
You led me out of my darkness
Always steadying me
whenever I lost my balance.
When I look at you
I lose myself
in your embrace.
You let me in,
you held me close.
I felt safe getting lost
within you.
When I look at you
I reminisce the time
our lips met.
Tears were streaming
down my eyes
And you asked me,
'What happened?'
I said, 'Nothing.'
You brought our foreheads
together and spoke
the three beautiful words.
'I love you.'
When I look at you
I hate myself for lying to you.
Those were happy tears, indeed
Yet there was pain in every drop,
Only you didn't know.
When I look at you
I remember what we were.
And I remember
what you thought we could be.
