"How's that sanding going?" Franky yelled over the sound of the hand sander.
You turned it off and took a damp rag to the table top to check it out.
"Hey that looks super! Get it wiped down and I'll find the paint and stain for you to finish it."
You nodded and gave him a thumbs up before cleaning off the table the rest of the way. It'd be a pain if you went to apply paint only for it to pick up the dust. After it was clean, you pulled off your mask and breathed in the somewhat dusty air of the workshop.
Both you and Cracker were adjusting well to the new jobs. The furniture work with Franky was more physically demanding than you were used to but it was getting easier. He was esctatic when Robin introduced you to him for work. Apparently there was an issue with people quitting not long after starting with him. His energy was too much for a lot of people but you didn't mind. Franky was very accepting of your inability to talk, he even cried when you told him you lost your voice in an accident.
While Franky did take some getting used to, Cracker slid easily into his work schedule and got along great with his co-workers. His security job was through a third party company so he got to work in a variety of different places with some interesting hours. Sometimes he'd have to nap during the day for late night hours, which sucked, but at least he only worked four days out of the week. And with him doing something more physical, he was even more willing to just lay down and cuddle after work. You couldn't complain too much about it, his cuddles were the best.
"Here we go! Use the paint for the base and the stain for the table top, you know where the brushes and rags are. If you need me, give me a holler, I'll be working on that set of chairs." Franky disappeared to another part of the workshop after dropping off the supplies. He loved his work and didn't stay away from it for long.
You started with the base. It'd need multiple layers of paint so you could do one now and then work on the table top while the paint dried. It was easy since the two sections were separated, there'd be no messy parts to it. Once the first layer of paint was done, you got a clean rag and used it to apply the stain to the table top. After a couple hours you'd finished the entire project. All it needed was time to dry completely and it'd be good to put back together.
You wiped your hands off on your jeans and found Franky bent over, putting together the last chair of the set he was working on. He saw you before you had to try to get his attention.
"All done?" He straightened out and joined you to check out your work. "It looks super! I think you're all done for the day." He gave you a pat on the shoulder.
You smiled and pulled out your phone. <Thanks! I'll see you later then.>
He waved goodbye as you headed out of the workshop and to your car. Cracker liked to have you drive his on days he didn't work. He hated your old car, calling it a deathtrap every chance he could. But days like today when he'd be leaving almost as soon as you got home, it wasn't a good idea to trade off the same vehicle. You never know how traffic could be.
You shot Cracker a quick text to let him know you'd be home soon, and coaxed your beater of a car into starting. It had days when it took some convincing. The drive home was short, Franky's workshop was conveniently close to the apartment complex. Within just a few minutes you were home.
As soon as you opened your front door Cracker pulled you in for a hug. "Have I told you how much being home alone all day sucks ass?"
You wiggled your way out of his arms. *Yeah it's not great.*
"And now I have to head out." He groaned and slumped into your much smaller frame, putting all his weight into you like some large, pouty child.
You fell back into the door to avoid falling over, giggling quietly the whole time. *Long shift tonight?*
