I know I said last episode would be the final one, but I wanted to write about Fermet and Risasi's reaction to cubs.

Risasi woke up beside Fermet before standing up.  It had been about a year and a half since they had returned to the Tree of Life, and Grise was expecting pups.  Harako had gotten himself a mate, as well, Upesi.  Upesi had two stripes along her back with thicker spots than Harako, looking similar to Fuli.  She was also expecting cubs.  Risasi felt a little left out, but she had accepted the fact that she wouldn't be able to bear cubs with Fermet as a mate.

Fermet stood up beside Risasi.  He looked to his mate.

"Are you feeling okay?"  He asked.

"I'm fine," she said.  That was a lie.  She wasn't feeling like normal.

"Let's head outside," Fermet suggested.  He knew she was lying.  Risasi nodded before following her mate outside.  Once they were away from the Tree, he spoke again, "What's wrong?"

"I don't know," Risasi admitted.  She was about to speak when she started to feel like she needed to throw up.  She turned around and vomited into the grass.

"Risasi!"  Fermet exclaimed, worried.

Risasi turned back to her mate.

"I'm good now," she assured.  "Just probably something I ate."

"But we ate the same things," Fermet said.  "Except for that one mouse you caught."

"That's probably it," Risasi said.  "Let's get the rest of the Night Pride."

"If it gets worse," Fermet followed Risasi, who was walking off, "tell me.  I can take the lead while you go talk to Nirmala."

"Dhanyavaad, Fermet," Risasi said.  "Thanks."

"Pas grave," Fermet responded.  After a couple seconds of walking, they saw the Night Pride come up to them.

"Are you all ready for patrol?"  Risasi asked.  The Night Pride nodded before setting off.  She felt like it took more energy than normal to walk.  It took a couple minutes before she started feeling sick again.  There was a pool of water close to them.  She gestured for the rest of the Night Pride to continue walking before she went off to the pool and vomited in it.  She dipped her muzzle into the pool and took a couple sips of water.  When she got back to the Night Pride, Risasi pulled Fermet aside.

"Can you lead?"  She asked.  "I need to go see Nirmala."

"Right," Fermet watched Risasi leave.

Risasi got to the Tree of Life and looked inside.

"Nirmala?"  She called.  "Makini?"

"Come in, Risasi," Nirmala's voice responded.  Risasi complied.

"What's wrong?"  Makini asked.

"I haven't been feeling normal," Risasi explained.  "I've vomited twice this morning, and feel like it's taking a little more energy than normal to walk."

"Aramakaro," Nirmala said.  "Lie down."

Risasi did what Nirmala said to do.

"Did you eat anything bad?"  Makini asked.

"There was one mouse that Fermet and I didn't share," Risasi said, "but it didn't smell bad, and it was freshly caught."

"That would normally mean you're expecting cubs," Nirmala said.

"But that's impossible," Risasi responded.  "Cougars and lions can't have cubs."

Makini went up to the lioness and put her ear on Risasi's stomach before moving away.

"It's less impossible than it seems," Makini said.

"Really?"  Risasi asked.

Nirmala did the same thing as Makini.

"Makini's right," she said.  "You're expecting cubs."

"Wait for Fermet outside," Makini suggested.

Risasi stood up and nodded, walking outside.  Fermet was already outside, waiting for her.

"What did they say?"  He asked.  "Is it bad?"

"Not at all," Risasi assured.  "It's good.  I'm not sick at all."

"What is it?"  Fermet asked.

"I'm expecting cubs," Risasi explained.

She licked Fermet's cheek.

"Our cubs."

"Really?"  Fermet said.

"That's why I was vomiting so much," Risasi said.  "Cubs."

"That's great!"  Fermet pressed himself against Risasi's side.
