As I followed Haydn down the hall, I felt her hand slip from mine as she went to tie her hair into a ponytail. One thing I noticed was how memorizing she was- everything from the swish of her ponytail and the way the muscles moved in her back as she walked, to the snake tattoo below her neck and the graceful movements of her steps.

I was quarter to flying behind her with fluttering ears and heart eyes like Bugz Bunny and I didn't even mind, she was funny, smart, beautiful, and kind- she was the whole package. I tore my eyes away from the black-haired girl in front of me, in an attempt to stop myself from being any more embarrassing in that house, instead, I glanced around in search of a distraction. However, when I did, I couldn't help but notice how she was barely in any family pictures that lined the walls and if she was, she was by herself and she really wasn't smiling, it made me pretty sad.

We walked into the open brightly lit kitchen and as I saw the familiar faces of Luis and Daniel, we were met with a new, unfamiliar one- who I was guessing was their mom.

"Hi Haydn, how was school?" The woman, Haydn's mom, asked as we walked towards the kitchen counter where takeaway boxes sat, and I saw Haydn's shoulders tense up at her words. Luis and Daniel were seated at the kitchen table, already eating their food while Haydn's mom served food for herself, completely unaware of Haydn's unease.

"Hey, Laura." Haydn greeted coolly as she got two bowls down from a shelf and our takeout containers. Laura was a plump, short, blonde lady with blue eyes and a big smile, she seemed nice, but my gut told me that there was something off- she didn't match the energy she was trying to give off.

"Who might this be?" Laura asked, eyeing me carefully and I didn't miss the mean glint in her eyes. I decided to spare Haydn from whatever was going on and answered instead.

"Oh, I'm Cristina, Cris, and Haydn is tutoring me in biology," I replied as I saw Haydn walk to the fridge out of the corner of my eye.

"Interesting." She said slowly with a fake smile that made me want to take a few steps away from her, it made me uneasy.

"Luis said it was okay," Haydn muttered as she grabbed two bottles of water and walked back to us, standing in between her mom and me, blocking her mom off completely. "We're gonna go study in my room." She said before she turned around and handed me my bowl and a fork.

No one said anything as we walked back to Haydn's room, Haydn walking behind me as we went and as she sat closed the door with a silent click, I heard her sigh in relief. We moved to sit down on her carpet and took out our books, I was eager to come up with any distraction, and as we talked and worked, I completely avoided any topic concerning her family- we actually managed to get a lot done, so much so that at ten we decided to put our books away before our brains exploded.

"Your mom seems nice," I commented lightly as I lay on the carpet looking at her, I didn't mean to, but my body was so tired from practice and talking to her was so easy and nice I couldn't help but lie down.

"Oh, that's not my mom." She explained and I wasn't even shocked, they looked nothing alike- Laura was short blonde, blue-eyed and white while Haydn was tall, dark-haired, golden-eyed, and Hispanic.

"I'm not surprised," I answered honestly, and she cracked a smile.

"That's my stepmom, but Luis is my father. I don't know where my actual mother is anymore." She explained before looking down at her hands. "Not that I would want too anyways." She muttered and I immediately regretted bringing it up at all.

"I'm sorry, you don't have to tell me-" I started off, but she shook her head, cutting me off.

"No, it's okay." She smiled and I lay down on my arms as I looked at her, I don't know why but being around her just made me feel more comfortable and I hoped she felt the same way.

"Thanks for helping me with Biology on a Friday night," I yawned, and she smiled down at me. "I'm pretty sure you had better things to do."

"That's like the hundredth time you've yawned tonight, are you sure I'm not boring you?" She asked jokingly and I giggled. "And I'll have you know you'd actually be surprised at the amount of nothing I had planned- besides, I offered."

"I'm sorry, it's not you- Logan made us work a lot harder during this practice." I groaned as I checked my phone and was shocked to see the time, it was already half eleven. "Oh shit, I should actually get going," I said with another yawn but the thought of getting up and moving from the spot on Haydn's floor was enough to make me groan.

"HAYDN! PLEASE COME DOWNSTAIRS!" Luis called up to us and I watched as Haydn stood up looking a lot taller than she was.

The last thing I remembered before I drifted off to sleep was the silent click of the door- until I heard an angel.

"Cristina." The angel called out with that beautiful, raspy voice Haydn had and I found it fitting. "Cristina?" The voice called out gently as I was shaken awake and when I opened my eyes, I was surprised, and embarrassed, to see that I was still on Haydn's floor.

I fell asleep on Haydn's fucking floor, and I wished it could just swallow me whole.

"Oh shit," I muttered as I sat up, wiping my face, making sure there was no drool or line marks before I could embarrass myself any further.

"Hey, sleepyhead." She murmured, crouching next to me with a brilliant smile on her face.

"Shut up, I'm so embarrassed." I blushed as I covered my face. "I'm so sorry, was I out long? Oh shit! I should go!!" I said flustered as I stood up and tried to pack up.

"Woah, hold on." She laughed as she stopped me, placing her hands on my arms. "No one is kicking you out, the opposite actually." She said seconds before the deafening thunder and flashes of lightning shook the house and I jumped- it was only then did I notice the pouring rain outside.

"Damn," I muttered, and she nodded.

"Yeah, my dad was calling me down to ask if you were going to stay here tonight since there's a really bad storm." She said and as if to prove her point more thunder shook the house at such a force her windows vibrated slightly.

"I can't impose on you guys like that." I shook my head. "I'm sure I'll be fine." I shrugged but it was though the universe had other plans because as the words left my lips, another bolt of lightening crackled, shaking the house as I jumped in fright.

"So, its settled, I'll get you something to sleep in while you call your parents and then I'll take the couch downstairs." She said, leaving no room for disagreement and before I could argue she got up and walked to her closet.
