"This song is called Teenage Dream."
A few pedestrians turned their heads at me. A bunch of teenagers wearing leather jackets stood nearby with ego written all over their faces. They look like extras from Grease, oh jeez they also look like ripoffs of Elvis Presley. Ladies at their 30s-40s passed by too, but all they did was eye me from head to toe because of the jeans and shirt I was wearing.

I counted down for my band and started strumming the chords for Katy Perry's Teenage Dream.
"You think I'm pretty
Without any make-up on
You think I'm funny
When I tell the punch line wrong
I know you get me
So I'll let my walls come down, down
Before you met me
I was alright
But things were kinda heavy
You brought me to life
Now every February
You'll be my valentine, valentine
Let's go all the way tonight
No regrets, just love
We can dance until we die
You and I
We'll be young forever
You make me feel like I'm living a, teenage, dream
The way you turn me on
I, can't, sleep
Let's runaway
And don't ever look back
Don't ever look back
My, heart, stops
When you look at me
Just, one, touch
Now baby I believe
This, is, real
So take a chance
And don't ever look back
Don't ever look back..."

Then, it all just went out like I was made to sing it.

"... Be your teenage dream tonight (tonight, tonight, tonight)... "

As the music stopped a large crowd started gathering around me. Many clapped their hands and cheered. Even the leather jacket wearing teenagers howled for more. This feels so good.

"The next song is called Mean, dance along with us if you wish to." I smiled while saying that to the microphone. I also took the banjo from its stand.

"You, with your words like knives
And swords and weapons that you use against me
You, have knocked me off my feet again,
Got me feeling like a nothing
You, with your voice like nails
On a chalk board, calling me out when I'm wounded
You, picking on the weaker man
You can take me down
With just one single blow
But you don't know what you don't know..."

//April 1958//

A large crowd was all I could hear and see at the moment. I'm at the biggest stage I have ever stepped on to date. I'm at Washington, specifically Paramount Theatre. I'm currently opening for Buddy Holly & The Crickets. I've been fangirling for the past few gigs of opening for him. I actually consider myself a big fan of him, also cause John Lennon was also a big fan of him.

"... Someday I'll be living in a big old city
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Why you gotta be so mean?..."
I smiled along with my bandmates.

"...You, with your switching sides
And your wildfire lies and your humiliation
You have pointed out my flaws again
As if I don't already see them
I walk with my head down,
Try to block you out 'cause I never impress you
I just want to feel okay again
I bet you got pushed around
Somebody made you cold but the cycle ends right now
'Cause you can't lead me down that road
And you don't know what you don't know..."

I started clapping ang the large crowd in the theater started clapping along as well.
"...Someday I'll be living in a big old city
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Why you gotta be so mean?..."

I said an impromptu speech before the bridge starts, "This is for all the liars, the cheaters, and the fakes in our lives. Who cares if they want to bring you down. We'll get to where we want to go. We'll be who we want to be. Never stop believing in yourself, because somebody believes in you..."

I heard the crowd roar after my speech.
"And I can see you years from now in a bar
Talking over a football game
With that same big loud opinion
But nobody's listening, washed up and ranting
About the same old bitter things
Drunk and grumbling on about how I can't sing
But all you are is mean
All you are is mean and a liar and pathetic
And alone in life and mean, and mean, and mean, and mean
LET'S GO NOW!
But someday I'll be living in a big old city
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Yeah someday I'll be big enough
So you can't hit me
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Why you gotta be so (mean)
Someday I'll be living in a big old city
(Why you gotta be so mean)
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
(Why you gotta be so mean)
Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me
(Why you gotta be so mean)
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Why you gotta be so mean?"

I waved goodbye to the crowd and exited the stage. As I went down the stage, I saw Buddy Holly himself preparing to go up.

"Yet another great start!" The great Buddy Holly said to me.

"Aw I gave my best, and I'm really fine with that." I smiled.

"I'm looking at a star unfold. You're amazing, Dana." Buddy told me before he finally went up the stage.

I smiled even wider and waved at him. He saw me and I made a thumbs up, he smiled. Fate can really be such a bitch sometimes. While he is watching me become a star, I'm watching thee Buddy Holly himself perform what would most likely be his final shows. I hope I'm wrong about him dying next year, because in my time, Wikipedia validated that he died too early due to a plane crash. That was the day that many said music died.
