Lera's POV
I felt the fear swell inside as I saw him slip into comatose, I heard Maxim faintly "Come on Lera, I know you love him but come on let's move so the doctors can help him" I looked at him "I'm going to lose him the same way as Alex" Maxim chuckled "No, you're going to see him awake in the hospital bed smiling as you give him a hug" I nodded "Yeah... yeah... I'll see him then." I felt maxims arms around me as I zoned back in, he said "Listen, he's strong. He has the will to fight to survive, just trust that he'll come back to you." I nodded as I stood up "I'm going to go help treat the wounded, I can't just sit here." Maxim nodded "I'll go keep an eye on Jace, stay strong Lera" I stood up and moved to Amelia when I saw her alone in the wreckage "Are you okay? Anything hurting?" She shook her head crying "I want my mommy" I nodded "Come on, I'll help you find her" as I picked her up and moved through the wreckage towards where Zofia and Feliks were last time I saw them. I heard Amelia "where's uncle?" I looked at her "He's getting fixed up by the doctors" she looked down "Is he going to be okay?" I sighed "I hope so" just then I heard Zofia "Amelia! Amelia where are you!?" I yelled "I've got her Zofia, She's right here!" I picked up pace as I headed towards where I heard Zofia. As I reached her she took Amelia "oh my, I'm so happy you're okay" she turned to me "How are you? Are you okay?" I sighed "no, not really. I'm worried about Jace, he was pretty beat up." She looked worried "what happened to him?" I looked down "He opened a couple of his cuts probably bruised his spine and took a piece of rebar through his stomach" Feliks joined us "Hows he holding up?" I shrugged "They're inside the base treating him, anyone know how we impacted?" Feliks nodded "They're telling me they think it's foul play, now they're just trying to figure out what caused the engine to go" I looked at the sky "Can't we just get a break?" I shifted my attention to Ana as she came forward "We managed to stop the bleeding and stitch his wounds shut but he hasn't woken up yet, he really can't stress him body or it'll all reopen" I nodded "I'll keep him down" she chuckled "I'll bring you all to him if you want" I smiled at Ana "Please do" she motioned us to follow as we walked through the wreckage. I saw emergency workers scouring the wreckage for any sign of that could point to why the plane crashed. Eventually we reached the medical wing of the base. I breathed deeply in and then released the breath as we entered his room I heard a coarse "Where's Lera?" As maxim replied "She's probably on her way, she said she was going to see if she could help anyone" we heard the sigh as Amelia went running towards the bed "Uncle!" Kilo hot on her tail. As I heard a light laugh and an "oomph" we turned the corner to see Amelia on the bed and Jace sitting up "Do you need Wojtek again?" He laughed "no, I think I'll be okay without him. Did you stay brave for your mommy and daddy?" She nodded with a smile "It was like a rollercoaster" he laughed "good. I knew you had it in you little soldier" she saluted. I smiled watching him interact with her, I heard Zofia next to me "He'd make a good dad" my head snapped towards her "seriously? This is what you're doing?" She feigned innocence "what? I'm not doing anything" I stared at her "I know what you're trying to do" she tried to hold up the illusion "I promise, I don't know what you're talking about" I stared at her as she relented "Fine fine, you win. I'll stop making comments about you having kids with him, Even though you want to" I burned red as I heard Jace "Hi Lera, why are you red?" Zofia asked "yes, Lera why are you red?" I stammered "Zofia she... she uh... she put images in my head by saying you'd be a good dad because of how you're bonding with Amelia" Feliks started laughing "Hun, you started without me?" Jace chuckled "Come here Lera." I stood my ground as he said "Lera, come here. I don't bite." Amelia jumped off the bed and ran over grabbing my hand "Come on Auntie" as she dragged me towards his hospital bed he smiled and I felt myself smiling too. Once I neared his bed I sat down as he spoke "it's not that bad" I sighed "i guess" he chuckled before asking "How ya feeling?" I leaned back against him "Worried and sore but right here I'm okay" I felt him nod with a sigh. kilo popped up next to us as he started petting her "and how are you princess?" She barked lightly he smiled "I told you Lera would protect you" Just then maxim stood "I'll go get Harry, he'll want to know everyone made it out" Feliks sat down in the chair Maxim was just in and asked "How does it feel to fly around a plane tube?" Zofia hit him as jace chuckled "not the best. I'd give it a solid 3/10 would not recommend" I turned to him "You'll really have to take it easy for the time you're off the field, if you don't you'll reopen your wounds" he looked down before nodding. I felt his head against my back as his arms snakes around my waist as the door opened and Erik rolled in "Why is it everywhere you go destruction follows?" I felt Jace shift as he replied "I have no clue. I just wanted to come home but nooooo the plane had to blow up" Erik chuckled "I heard you got skewered protecting a kid? This her?" Amelia hid behind Zofia's leg as Zofia looked down "Honey, this is a friend of mine and Uncles. He won't hurt you any." She peaked out and waved as Erik smiled "Hi, I'm Erik it's very nice to meet you." I leaned over to Jace and whispered "Never thought I'd see Erik as anything other then a delta operator" kilo whined as Jace stopped petting her
Jace's POV
I chuckled slightly "everyone has hidden layers Ms. worry" Lera turned towards me "I worry because you always put yourself in situations you could die" I nodded "as does every other operator here, but you don't worry about them" she narrowed her eyes at me "Yea, I don't. You know why?" I smiled as I replied "Because you love me" she shook her head "Because they aren't dumbasses" I shrunk into my covers and turned away as the door opened again. Kilo growled softly at Lera. I felt Lera poking my back but I ignored her looking out the window. I heard Harry faintly "Jace, it's good to see you're still in the land of the living. Zofia and I'm presuming Feliks?" He nodded as Harry continued "And you must be Amelia. Jace has told me a lot about you, like how you're super brave is he lying to me?" She smiled and shook her head no "I wasn't scared at all when we crashed" he smiled "Good, you certainly are like your mom" he stood and turned serious "Wendigo, report" I immediately straightened as the years of military service resurfaced "Sir, Ying has been neutralized and Lesion was wounded 1 round to his right hand. They're training the white masks in the middle east and preparing for something Jackal and Mira are distractions, distractions that need to be dealt with but distractions none the less. Most of the enemy operators and their units are in a satellite defense in the Middle East." He nodded and looked thoughtful "Were looking at full scale war to secure the Middle East and clear out our turncoats, aren't we?" Lera spoke "Sir, if I may, Can I recommend we wait the 4-5 weeks it'll take him to recover? He has the most experience combatting the turncoats and he's the glue that's turned us all into family being on the field without him would damage morale. He could take a squad of 10 operators to take out Lion while the special units provided by governments handle the satellite operators it also gives us time to gather intel on their locations and how many operators we would need to guarantee the ops are taken down." Harry shifted his weight and thought it over as Erik spoke "I have to agree with Lera, sir. He definitely raises morale and the intel gathered in the time we wait for him to heal could win us the day. Attacking is always harder than defending and knowing how many enemies we have to combat makes securing the base that much easier." Harry nodded "Very well, Wendigo while you're on bed leave I want you looking through any images we get from UAV and I want you to form lists of numbers at bases, what turncoats are there and form plans to attack the strongholds." I saluted "yessir" he relaxed slightly "Now rest, you've all been through a lot. I'll have the doctors release you, Lera I need you to watch over him. You're one of our few medics here, I need him in top condition when the three weeks are up. I don't want to lose our lead over them Erik, I'll need you to help him go through all the images. Now I'm off to talk to various world leaders to arrange a hunt down of Jackal and Mira and a coalition to assault the various strongholds in 4-5 weeks." We waved as he left and I laid back. I felt someone poke my cheek, I looked over and saw Amelia "Are you okay?" I sighed "Just tired and Auntie was being mean to me" she gasped before running around the bed to Lera "Why were you being mean to uncle?" Lera turned to me as I continued to stare off into space as a singular tear escapes my eye she turned to Amelia "I don't know" Amelia pouted as she ran to Zofia and sat on her lap as I heard Lera "Jace, hey Jace?" I shook my head clearing my mind "Hmm?" She looked concerned "You okay?" I sighed "no, no I'm not." She moved closer on the bed "what's wrong?" I looked at the ceiling "I've been impaled, you're being an ass over nothing, I'm bed ridden for 3 weeks and I can't change any of it" Lera got defensive "I'm not being an ass" I heard Erik "yeah you really are, the man got skewered saving amelias life and you called him a dumbass for it. Hes just trying to protect people and everyone's giving him grief about it, do you honestly think he wanted to get skewered? No, no one wants to get skewered but he took the pain to make sure that 7 year old little girl has a future" Lera looked down as I sighed "Everyone leave." Erik rolled over to me "Stay safe alright kid?" I nodded as Zofia left looking down and Feliks walked over after Erik left "I hope you feel better, you can ask me and mine for anything god knows we owe you a lot" I nodded as I watched him leave. Just as I was about to lay down I heard Lera in a shaky voice "I didn't realize that was cutting you up that badly.." I looked at her "what would you feel if you saved a 7 year old, getting injured in the process, and I called you a dumbass for it?" She looked at me "I'd feel like shit..." I nodded "Just let me sleep. I'll bury it and we can move forward." I felt her lay down "no, I'm going to stay with you until you feel better" I glanced over "why? Think I'm going to get injured again?" She looked at me "No, it's because I want to be here for you, I said that in anger. I'm mad that you're always getting injured while I'm on the sidelines just watching. We're together right?" I nodded "yes" she smiled "then let me help you protect everyone, I know you'll protect me can you trust that I'll protect you?" I looked at her as I held up my pinky "Pinky promise you'll be there at the end of all this?" She locked eyes with me as she wrapped her pinky around mine "of course" I smiled "can I go to sleep now? A lot of pain and I'm tired" she nodded as I wrapped my arms around her and I went to sleep kilo squeezing on the bed laying her head on Lera.
