Caroline Bingley is Charles' sister. And even if his brother seems really pleased with his relationship with Jane, she feels kind of the opposite way.
That is the reason why she came up with a plan to separate them. She asked one of her friends to flirt with Jane and get a little too close to her and while that happened, she took a picture of the two of them. Finally, she just waited for the right situation to show it to his brother, who felt directly into the trap.
Sadly, he felt as if Jane had betrayed him, so he decided to go back to London, with the purpose of clearing his mind.
The worst part is that Mr Darcy knew Caroline's plan and did not try to stop her.
