Deep Roots

In its youth, already an ancient of days, this mystery

When lands merged with lands, by seas undivided
High-aspiring, far spread roots occult the tree of life
Bowed unbroken still stands the tree its ground
Now springing back from winters malcontent
Parasites with their arabesque orchids,surround.

Strange fruit they hung - leaves a stench
A tree that bore the bite of barbaric-bark
Unholy brethren , blow up-wind what they will
Time and time again to kill the flowering
Of art, the desert winds seek only to bury
But life roots glow lava-deep into earth's heart.

Branching high, like hands free to applaud
The star-strewn sky its moon no cut-throat crescent
But full , beautiful beckons from toil and tide
Saplings and seas, fresh uprisings borne free
Not sunk by sailors, their swords crossing the line.

Given latitude, they took more than spice
Kingdoms lost with the throw of the traitor's dice
Wars foreign fought, infants fed famine not rice
But the tree stood, though the soil was sucked barren.

Sheltering the sage with a vision unclouded
Orient selves inspire  swan-breath breeze
Hark the dawn in every dew-drop
A sapling soul, till the future its fresh crop
