Virgil watched as the carried Cassidy out of the room. They never told him where they were taking him. Be knew he couldn't follow. He watched as his best friend laid there on that wooden table, being carried out by several guards. He watched as they carried him...
right out of the castle.
"Virgil?" His mother stood there frozen in concern as Virgil never took his eyes off that front door. "Virgil, you understand why we had to..."
"If father puts him in a pyre..." Virgil's eyes flashed as he turned around and walked back into the room. "...I will never forgive him."
"Virgil Lily, you stop that right now." Virgil glared back at her shocking the queen at the amount of anger was in his eyes. "Your father loves you. He's not a monster..."
"No... I am." Her eyes filled with horror as he just smiled sadly. "That is what he said. I'm not his son. I'm a monster."
"Virgil, you don't understand. You were never told the..."
"SO YOU AGREE?!" Virgil's eyes flashed again as he spun around filled with pain. "You agree with what he said?!"
"You don't know why he said it." Virgil's face fell as he looked over to see his father standing there far enough away but he had clearly heard the conversation. Traea frowned as she tried to take her son's hand only to freeze as Virgil flinched away. "Virgil, please?"
"I think I figured out..." Virgil laughed as he wiped his tears away. "I think I finally figured out why you were both so adamant that I stay inside." The queen paled as she felt her husband place a hand to her back. Virgil smiled through his broken expression as he met both their eyes before shaking his head. "It wasn't to protect me from everyone." Virgil's eyes went dark as he stepped back and gripped the door tightly. "It was to protect everyone from me!"
"Virg..." Virgil slammed the door cutting his father off who let out a shaky breath. "Well then. I fucked that up."
"You didn't know he was there." Traea frowned as her husband shook his head. "Drae..."
"I never should have said it." The king started to walk off only to stop and stare out of the window towards the wall. "I never should have said it. Even if I reeling... Even if I was scared... or hurt... Virgil is our son. We raised him. Kept him safe and guarded... Far away from HIM. Virgil's our son and in a moment of mental weakness I called him a monster." Draemon's eyes spilled with tears as he sighed. "And worst still... He heard it."
"So fix it. Talk to him. Tell him you love him..." Drae frowned as he looked back out to find something trying to crawl over the wall... again. He groaned and pointed out as one of the guards killed it, shoving it back over to join the rest of the bodies until it can be cleared out. "Drae?"
"He's attracting them." Traea's eyes went wide as the King bit his lip. "He's unaware of it all but... now that they know... they just keep coming. He isn't safe here anymore. THAT DRAGON WAS PROOF!"
"What are you saying?" The king smiled sadly as his tears fell harder only to match his wife who sobbed as she shook her head. "No. NO!"
"He can't stay here. They will breakthrough. They will keep coming. It's only a matter of time before HE comes just to see what all the fuss is about." The King's eyes darkened as he looked away. "Virgil has to go."
"DRAE!"
"IT IS OUR JOB TO KEEP HIM SAFE!" Traea froze up as the King yelled. His eyes darted to the door his son was behind and he broke. "He isn't safe with us any longer."
"What are you planning on doing with that dragon?" The king tensed as his wife's eyes filled with pain. "That boy Cassidy... the one you carded away from our son... What are you planning on doing?"
"Traea..."
"If you dumped him back into those woods... there won't be a need for a pyre. That man stabbed his own son and LAUGHED!" The king paled as Traea yelled out. "What did you do with him?"
"I put him somewhere safe... for now." The king frowned as he saw his wife break before him. "My focus cannot be on him, right now. I have to protect my son."
"Your son?" Draemon's face fell as Traea just smiled through the son. "You're the one who wants to send him away."
"You what?" Once again the two froze up to find Virgil standing there with this confused look in his eyes. "You're sending me away?"
"Virgil it isn't what you..."
"If you want to have a conversation where I can't here you maybe don't it right outside the door to a room you know I'm in?" Virgil called out cutting his father off who only frowned as Virgil shook his head. "You tried to send me away before remember." Virgil clenched his fists as he glared at him. "All that came out of that was Lady May's death. Then the dragon attack... and then Cassidy!"
"Virgil..."
"And now me." The King froze up as Virgil's voice went soft. "You just don't want a monster in your castle."
"Virgil Lily, I did NOT mean that!" Virgil's expression never changed. He just sighed with a look that said he was bored with everything as he wondered if he had any tears left to cry. "My ONLY wish is to keep you safe."
"Well, you have a lot of work to do." Virgil laughed as his parents looked at him with horror. "After all everything seems to want to kill me. That dragon... has now tried to get me..." Virgil glanced at his hand as if counting before laughed and holding three fingers up. "Three times? I was lucky the first time... No one died. No one got hurt." Virgil shook his head slowly as he tried to hold back his tears. "Can't say the same with the others."
"I'm sorry. I don't want to..." The King deflated as he turned around again to leave. "...I don't have a choice. As soon as I am able, I am removing you from the castle for your own safety." Virgil scoffed as he watched his father leave. His mother looked horrified as her eyes darted between the two before running after her husband no doubt to try and change his mind. Virgil just rolled his eyes as he walked back into the room and slid down the door.
"Don't lie... you'll all be happy with me gone." Virgil's eyes flashed as energy tore through him warping the room so much... by this point, it looked covered with overgrowth so bad it nearly looked like a web of thorns. "I'm so sorry, Cassidy. I'm so sorry."
