CHAPTER TWO

"notifications"

Harper is on her fourth slice and I'm still on my second.

She sure eats a lot for a girl but how come her body looks like she only eat salad for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Not fair.

Harper takes a sip of her Coca Cola Diet while her eyes are pierced to my TV, "I don't like this Molly girl."

We are watching the newest season of Love Island UK, where the new girl "Molly Mae" enters the villa. We are obsessed with this show and we never miss a single episode together. In my opinion, the new girl is not so bad at all. Everyone is just insecure of her because she will snatch one of the boys anytime soon.

I shrug my shoulders, "I like her."

She rips her attention of the TV and gasps, "What?! How?! She is so flirty to everyone. I feel like she is just going to the villa just the get the coins!!!"

Even without seeing her face, I can already feel that she is judging me hard right now. Before I open my mouth, her phone starts to ring left and right like crazy.

"Who's that? Another booty call?" My eyes directly go to the screen, hoping I can see the notifications without her knowing. She opened her phone and taps the notification, it lets her go to Instagram. A video pops up and as I am peeking, I can see that there is a guy and some girls around him with the music blasting on the background. "Look at you, already stalking a new guy." I wiggle my eyebrows at her.

Somehow it takes her a while to respond. I can sense something is going on, maybe it was Justin in the video? But I don't think it's him. Justin has blonde hair but the guy in the video has brown hair. Maybe he dyed her hair? But it doesn't look like him.

"What's wrong?" I asked softly. But she plays it cool.

"Nah, nothing. Just some random guy going on live in Instagram."

It's my turn to catch her bullshit now.

"No. You're lying. You know you are bad at lying too right?"

She locks her phone and drop it as she throw her hands up, "I didn't! I don't even know the guy!"

Oh I see, she tries to play the innocent.

With my straight face I ask her, "If you don't even know the guy, why do you turn on his post notification?"

She mumbles "shit" and I know I caught her. But then her phone starts to ring again, I didn't want to miss it this time so I grab her phone, I wonder if her passcode is still the same. I type in "1203" and it lets me in. She tries to snatch it off my hand but she is not fast enough. I saw the notification and I saw the guilty face on her.

masonreyes started a live video. Watch it before it ends!

I don't think twice and open the video. It's been 6 months since I last saw him, and 5 months since I saw "masonreyes" username on Instagram since I last blocked him. The ache i feel in my heart clearly shows by removing everything related to him from my life didn't work.

It's him. Drunk and surrounded by different girls on the video. What is he doing? He's not like this before. I know that he doesn't like to drink, especially getting drunk. But why is he so wasted now?

I must be getting too deep into my thoughts because I don't realised Harper's phone is not on my hands anymore. She quickly turn up the volume on my TV to distract me but all I can think is him. Seeing his face for the first time again after 6 months bring all the memories back. Memories of the first time we met, the depth of his dimples that I adore...

"Earth to Emery?" Harper examines me carefully, I can see the worry in her face.

"Why? Why is he so wasted? It's only 7."

"I don't know Em."

I turn to her, "Why?"

"Why what?" She asks apologetically.

"Why did you have his post notification turned on?"

Before she acts all innocent, I scowl at her "Don't try to lie."

"I don't know if you're ready to hear this.."

"Continue."

"You know, after it happened, he reached out to me. So many times Em. He would text me randomly asking for you."

I gulped. I don't know what to say.

"Don't go all batshit to me, but a few days after it happened, I met him. He didn't look too good Em. And I'm sorry I never told you about this, I don't want to bring him up to you, I know it was so hard for you."

It still is.

"I don't know what to say Harper. Seeing his face after all these times.. it's enough to bring all the memories back."

"I'm sorry Em. I was worried.. That's why I turned his post notification on. I just want to make sure that he is fine and doesn't get himself into too much trouble."

"He is getting himself into trouble. He is. Right? Why is he drinking so much? And all the girls around him.. He is always a trouble Harper. Always will and always be."

I don't want a single video to ruin all my effort of trying to forget him. I don't wait for Harper's reply but quickly stand up and put all my clothes inside the washing machine, grab all the mugs and plates around my place, putting them in the sink and wash them. For once, keeping my place clean can actually be a distraction.
