Chapter 08: Savage
Adeline

"I'm a savage."

"Classy, bougie, ratchet. Sassy, moody, nasty."

"Acting stupid, what's happening? Bitch-" My brother sings again as I make faces in his mirror, dancing behind him.

"What's happening?" I sing again, sticking my tongue out at him.

"Do we have to sing this song?" Kaleb grumbles as he splashes water on his face.

"Yes. Masculinity isn't fragile."

Shaking my finger, I poke him in his chest. Kaleb grabs my finger and pulls it up to his mouth, attempting to bite me.

"You cannibal!" I gasp, moving my hand away from him.

"Love you too, Adeline." He jokes, wiping the water off his face.

"What are we doing today?" I ask him, sitting on the edge of his sink.

"I'm having friends over, you're going to go change." Kaleb grits, looking down at me.

I was wearing a long sleeve crop top and navy blue sweat pants that clung at the top. My brother scowls as I pat his chest, walking out his room completely.

"Oh, hey Adeline. Crazy seeing you here."

"I know. Such a coincidence." I stress, making note of the people in the room.

Greeting the rest of my brother's friends, I feel a pair of eyes follow me as I walk into the kitchen.

Climbing up onto the counter, I open the cabinets, looking for something to occupy me.

"Do you need help?"

A male voice shocks me as I look around, trying my best to keep my balance.

"Oh no. I'm fine, thank you."

The boy steps closer to me and I give him a side-glance, confused as to why he was talking to me.

"Do you go to the same school as Kaleb? I've never seen you before."

"Yes. I'm Adeline." I hold my hand out for him and he shakes it.

"I'm James. How come we've never met?" James leans against the counter as I continue to look for something.

"I'm sure you've heard about Fatty Addy, perhaps? And I spend most of my time in my room." I mumble, pursing my lips out.

"That's you? I expected someone more- more."

James helps me down from the counter as I stand in front of him, swaying back and forth.

"Nope, it's me." I smile, pointing to myself. "I am chubby, though."

He holds his head back to examine me before shaking his head. "It's just your stomach, and even then the rest of your body throws the proportion off."

I feel my face heat up as James leans closer to look at my face. The action gets cut off when the kitchen door opens and closes, signaling that someone is now is the room.

"Did you find the chips, James?" I hear Easton and I don't bother to turn around.

"Oh yeah. Right here." James takes the extra bag of chips that I had taken down. "Thank you."

The two of them leave the room, Easton lingering behind slightly longer to look at me.

"What?" I get defensive, making him back up.

"Nothing."

Sitting alone in my room, I stick a few flowers onto my collage, nodding at the finished product.

"That's cute."

"Are you a stalker or something?" I groan, looking at Easton.

"For you, maybe." He shrugs, sitting down in front of me.

"I'm getting a restraining order then." I mumble, unplugging my glue gun.

"Well shit." Easton puts his hand on his heart before taking the machine out of my hand, spinning it on his finger. "You look nice today."

"Thanks. I can't say the same to you though."

Pushing myself up, I walk away to sit at my window, dangling my legs.

"Is there something I can do for you?" I ask, raising an eyebrow in confusion. "You're always bothering me like we're friends."

Easton's face goes pale as he silently curses, biting his lip. "We aren't."

"Correct. You're a bully and I'm the bullied. Doesn't really work out." I shrug, throwing my blanket over my lower half.

"I'm going to go now. See you tomorrow."

Easton walks out of my room, closing the door behind him. I hear the guys yell in defeat as the television gets louder, blaming Easton for coming back too soon.

I'm still confused on why he was upset when I said we weren't friends. Everyone knows it's true, it's nothing new.

"I'm a low key savage, though."

Author's Note:

Why do I feel like this book is so bad?

I seriously have a storyline planned out but the way these first few chapters are going is killing me!

If you think there's anything I can do to make it better, just say so. It means a lot to me.

Thank you, bye.
