Chapter 25: When You're Ready
Adeline

"What happened? You look frazzled."

"He hurt me!"

I throw my arms down next to me while looking up at him. My brother's eyes darken as he looks over to Easton, cracking his knuckles in the process.

"Pardon?"

"Oh, Kaleb. She's probably just lying." Brianna states, rolling her eyes.

"I didn't ask you, Brianna. And I know she's telling the truth."

Marma starts laughing before resting her arm on Brianna's shoulder, copying her pose. "The snitch really did deserve what we did to her yesterday."

"You did that? Oh hell no."

Kaleb starts walking over to the two of them before Sasha pulls him back. "I'll handle them."

"I don't like that girl. Is she his girlfriend?" Marma asks again and I take a step back.

"No, she's just some random bitch from another school." Brianna mumbles, still not moving.

"But is he single though?"

"I am. But not for you." My brother grumbles while walking past them, standing in front of Easton. "Adeline, go wait in the car."

Kaleb throws the keys behind his back and I catch it, turning my back to the group.

When Kaleb is angry, I've learned to not question him.

Looking behind me for a moment, I notice my brother on the ground, throwing punches to Easton's face.

"That probably hurt." I laugh, continuing to watch.

"Adeline! I said leave!"

"I'm going!"

Exiting the house, I press a button on the keys, watching the car light up.

"Passenger or-" I think for a minute, walking to the driver's side. "Driver."

Sitting down in the car, I tap my fingers on the steering wheel, slowly getting bored.

The screams inside get louder and I look at the front door, noticing my brother walkout, throwing Easton outside.

Easton lands on the pathway and I quickly climb into the passenger seat to get a better view.

The corner of his lip was bleeding and his eye started swelling, but that didn't stop him from trying to fight back.

My brother throws him down again with a final punch to the jaw before walking away, leaving Easton.

Brianna and Marma come walking outside to check on Easton but Kaleb grabs the both of them quickly, holding them by their hair.

"Don't you ever, put your hands on my sister!" Kaleb threatens them and I roll the window down to hear him better. "I'll go to jail for her. But you're lucky I'm not trying to hit any girls tonight."

He balls up his fists before walking to the car, sitting down and breathing deeply.

Kaleb starts laughing while pushing his hair back, the middle part I made earlier getting messed up. "Next time, you tell me the minute it happens. I could have done worse but I'm kind of tipsy."

"That wasn't your worse?" I question, biting my lip in embarrassment.

"You know it wasn't."

"And this, is how you part you hair halfway."

"Shut up and just do it."

"You should let me clean your eye too. Easton didn't get you as bad as you did to him, but this is really scary." I mumble, bringing the tail-comb back up to fix the part again.

"I don't get why he thought I wouldn't hurt him after he hit me back." Kaleb laughs and I roll my eyes, fluffing out his hair on each side. "He was in the wrong."

"You right, you right." Puffing up my cheeks, I put my hand under a spot covered by hair, clipping it. "Your undercut is growing back."

"No duh."

Kaleb grew up with an undercut, since he was 1 our mom cut it that way and he literally just loves it. Me on the other hair, I got the straight yet fluffy hair from my dad's side of the family, the mess.

"I'm going to my room now, Kaleb. Don't dream about fighting." I wave to my brother before walking out the room, hearing him call me.

"Close your curtains. I mean it."

"Yes, Kaleb. I know."

Walking down the hall, I lock my room door behind me, sitting at me window.

I was playing games on my phone as I see Easton's room like turn on from the corner of my eyes, not missing him stumble into the room.

Mrs. Kim follows in behind him and I close my curtains, turning my back to them.

Opening my messages, I text Kaleb, not wanted to get up.

Me: did you tell his parents?

Kaleb: Maybe. I don't care.

Me: that's evil.

Kaleb: Idc. Now goodnight.

Shaking my head, I stand up to turn of my room light, sitting alone in the darkness.

"Yeah no."

I press the power button on the remote, watching the television light up.

Maybe things will change after this? Who knows.
