Chapter 10: Back
Adeline

I've been sitting in my room for over an hour and nothing have happened. Easton closed his curtains some time ago, so I wasn't really sure what could have went down.

"I'm back, Addy." My brother knocks on my door before opening it, walking in to talk to me.

Kaleb sits on the edge of my bed before shifting closer, resting his head on my lap. He throws his arms up to touch my face and I slap his hands, hardly realizing the scratches on him.

"What's this?" I mutter, inspecting his bleeding knuckles.

"I punched a hole through his wall. Maybe his face too." My brother hums, removing his hand from mine to crack them. "I'd do it again."

"I never said Easton hurt me, though." I puff up my cheeks, crossing my arms.

"I hurt them all. You never told me the specific person, so everybody got it."

"And you didn't get in trouble?"

"Adeline. When you carry out a crime, do you do it when people are around?" Kaleb asks, ruffling his hair. "No, you don't. I did it after school, in the basketball court. Easton didn't go so I dealt with him just now."

"You can't do that, Kaleb. Don't do that." I grit out, pinching him.

"We'll see."

Rushing to throw my tea bag in the trash, I miss the trash can. The wet object sticks on the wall awkwardly and I wince at the unpleasant sound.

"What are you doing?"

"Making tea. And you?" I smile up at my brother, causing him to roll his eyes.

"Wondering why you're so weird." He jokes and I pout, attempting to make him feel bad.

"You think I'm weird? I'm sorry."

Right now, I was faking it. If it was somebody else, I honestly would have felt bad.

"Oh god. No, Addy. I think you're just unique."

"In a good way?" I smile, turning my back to him.

"In a great way." Kaleb nods, trying to get back on my good side.

"Good boy. Would you like some tea too?" Cooing, I push my lips out as if I was talking to a dog, making Kaleb shake his head.

"Depends. If you put sugar in it then yes. No honey."

"It's lemon."

"Exactly why I don't want honey."

Shifting from side to side, I unclip my padding after I completely forgot I still had it on.

"What are you doing?" My brother yells from the other side of the door and I roll my eyes, answering him.

"Writing!"

"Writing what?"

"Just words." I murmur, uncapping the pen.

"Oh cool. Write about me, say that I'm your one and only." Kaleb chuckles, and I hear his footsteps get quieter.

"So weird."

I adjust my position on the ledge, fixing the pillow behind me.

Tapping the pen against my chin, words finally start going through my head and I put them together, humming out the tune.

"Maybe when I listen-"

Mumbling to myself, I continue writing, filling the page before I'm able to redirect my thoughts.

Another sound from outside my window catches my attention and I turn my head, not prepared for what I saw.

"Oh, the memories."
