Chapter 58: His Family
Adeline

"You're coming inside!"

"No, I'm not."

"Is your grandma here too?" Kaleb asks, stuffing his face with a muffin.

"Yeah, why-"

"We're going inside then, Adeline. Come on!"

The two of them start pushing me inside and I push myself back against them, not wanting to go in.

Finally getting inside, the kids look up at us before realization hits them, quickly standing up.

"Adeline? Kaleb? Kaleb! Adeline!"

"You said you were coming to South Korea two years ago." The young girl stands in front of me and waves her finger around, sass laced in her voice.

Bending down to her eye level, I shake my finger at her as well, matching her tone. "And does it look like I have money to buy a ticket? You said you were coming to America two years ago."

"Girl bye."

"Hi, Hana." I giggle, hugging her.

Someone else pulls on the edge of my dress and I look to my side, smiling at the wide eye boy.

"Hi, bambi." He smiles cutely, swaying back and forth.

"Back off, Jae." Easton pushes the kid away from me, glaring at him.

"Why? It's not like she's your girlfriend!" Jae teases, sticking his tongue out at his cousin.

"But she is though. What is she to you?"

"She likes me first. I'm cuter." Jae whines, testing Easton.

Before he's able to respond to the little boy, the rest of Easton's family poke their heads out the kitchen door, each making a different face.

"You're lying?!?!"

"You're for real?"

The adults run out the kitchen and my brother follows behind them, holding a fork in his hand.

"When were you going to tell me?" Easton's mom pouts, sitting down on the couch.

"I knew it." His dad exclaims and I feel my face heat up, looking over at Easton for help.

"She probably did it when she wasn't in Korea." The nine year old girl shrugs, squishing herself between her mom and aunt.

"We've only been together for two days." I mutter, standing awkwardly in front of them.

"That's no excuse." Mrs. Kim refutes, smiling widely. "Oh wow. This really leveled tension of a death. Please. Tell us more."

"Is that why you used the motorcycle I bought you?"

Easton rubs the back of his neck before laughing awkwardly, avoiding his dad's smirk.

"Maybe, maybe not."

"I'm going to get you!"

"No, you're not!

"Easton help me!" Jae screams, trying to climb over the fence.

"I'm not helping you. Damn girlfriend stealer." My boyfriend grumbles, reading a book with Hana.

The five year old pouts as I walk closer to him , still trying to get over the fence.

"Are you trying to go to my yard?" I giggle, picking him up.

"It's safer over there!" He sighs in defeat. "Somebody, anybody. Help me!"

"Oh shut it." Easton fans him off as I spin around, my dress flowing behind me. "Hey, Addy. Come here, I want to test something."

"You mad? Fight me."

Jae wiggles out of my hold and runs to his cousin, puffing out his chest.

"Little boy, I will-"

"Adeline! Come here!"

Easton's grandma calls me and I look back at her, not missing the giant smile on her face.

"Yes, ma'am? Is something wrong?" Walking back inside, I acknowledge the adults standing around the island and my brother in the middle, setting down different plates of food.

"No, nothing at all. I just wanted to get to know you more. Sit, sit."

Sitting next to my brother, I brush my dress off before looking up again, waiting.

"What do you think about my grandson?"

"He's- complicated. But he's good."

"Just good? Go into details."

"He's clingy when he wants to be. And sweet. But then again he can give mixed emotions sometimes."

"Have you two kissed yet? What was it like? Sparks?" Easton's mom asks as she puts a pair of chopsticks in front of me.

"Mom!"

Easton walks inside with Jae over his shoulder, Hana trailing behind them.

"I just wanted to know. And I didn't ask you."

"You don't need to know what our kisses are like!"

His grandma nudges me as I eat quietly, watching the encounter in front of me. "But between you and me, who's the dominant one?"

"He is." I giggle, listening to Easton's mom gasp dramatically.

"I knew it! That's all I wanted to know, I'm your mother."

"And that's just too much, mom."

"I'm so sorry about them." Easton mutters.

"It's fine. Your family is fun."

"They'll be here for a month. It's only fun when it's the first day."

"You'll survive." I laugh, standing on my tip-toes to reach somewhere near his height.

"Kiss me."

"I'm good."

Pushing him away, I turn to walk to my house before getting pulled back, facing him again.

"What?"

"I want a kiss. Please?"

"Sure." I shrug, kissing his cheek.

"No, on my lips." Easton places his hand on the nape of my neck, leaning forward to kiss me.

"Awe!"

"Nevermind, I can't with them." He releases me and looks back at his family, glaring at them. "I'll do it in private."

"That's fine, at least I saw it almost happen!" His mom laughs, walking back inside.

"So cute!" His aunts cheer, follow behind his uncles and dad.

"I'm done here. Come on, Addy."
