Most of your friends were slowly leaving the city, pursuing their dreams... (These names can be changed, but I'm just gonna stick with 5D's to start.) Jack, Leo, Luna, Crow, Akiza... they had all left, but Yusei was still in Neo Domino (Can be changed)... but he was changing... in ways that weren't like him... he was starting to go to bars, sometimes coming home drunker than drunk... or you had to go and pick him up because he drank enough that he passed out or because he got in a bar fight... this wasn't like him at all, and he wouldn't tell you why...
