Summary: The one where Ryan totally kills Brendon's phone somewhere between Salt Lake and Denver and has to make it up to him.
(BTW I can't remember if i've done this one already so my apologies if I have x)Okay, so really, Brendon is overreacting. Seriously, he is. It wasn’t like Ryan meant to throw Brendon’s phone out the bus window somewhere between Salt Lake and Denver.
Alright, fine. So maybe Ryan’s intention had been malicious to some extent, but he’d only planned on holding Brendon’s sidekick hostage an arms length outside the bus until Brendon vowed not to have another go at Free Bird. Brendon had whined and grappled for it, gotten pissed and said, “Ross, I’m going to kill you if you--” and then (because apparently nobody thought it was a good idea to warn Ryan that the highway they were traveling on was under road construction and that it might pose a possible threat to those phones being held out windows), they hit a bump and well, Brendon’s phone was an unfortunate casualty.
Ryan’s eyes grew panicked for a split second before he masked it with humor and lighthearted regret and laughed, “Oh shit.”
Brendon’s mouth had dropped to the floor and his eyebrows creased into this appalled shock and he exhaled a breath of disbelief before grinding his teeth in rage. “Tell me you didn’t just drop my phone.”
Ryan’s eyes were bright with mischief and the corners of his mouth were stretched up so far that, had Brendon not been so thoroughly pissed, it was quite possible that his heart stuttered a bit. Ryan curled his arm back in through the window, empty handed mind you, and choked, “Oh my god, dude. I’m so sorr--”
“Ryan, you realize you just threw my fucking phone out the fucking window!” Brendon seethed, eyebrows now dancing in this dangerous way that Ryan had only seen once before, years ago on their first tour when Brendon had hung up his mother, fuming. Ryan had to admit, despite the overwhelming hilarity of the situation, he did feel kind of bad for causing Brendon to make that frightening expression again.
Trying to be calming, because really though, he hated seeing Brendon upset more than anything, Ryan said, “Okay, yeah. But technically I didn’t throw it because--”
“Oh my god! Are you serious?” Brendon shouted and yeah, Ryan’s totally not going to admit he flinched. “You’re going to get all technical and shit? I don’t fucking care how my phone ended up out the window. The point is that it’s out the window because of you!”
Brendon loves crowds, so really, it’s no surprise that he drew one that consisted of Spencer and Zack. Where Jon was, the hell if anyone knew.
Zack, being the peacemaker, said, “Hey, guys,” in a tone that clearly said, Calm down, alright?
Spencer, being the mother, said, “What the fuck?” in a tone that clearly said, Whose ass do I have to kick?
Of course, Brendon ignored them and Ryan’s hope of being rescued was quickly stolen away when Brendon rounded on him again. “I can’t fucking believe you right now, man!”
“Dude, I didn’t mean to, okay?”
“I don’t give a shit if you ‘meant to’, you asshole! That’s not going to bring my fucking phone back!”
“Brendon, dude. Calm down, we--”
“Stay out of this, Spencer,” Brendon hissed, not daring to take his boiling brown eyes off of Ryan, who was totally not still cowering by the window, thank you very much. He spat, “Ross, you fucking douche, I hate you so much right now. Like--”
