2,529 words

᯽︎Third Person POV᯽︎

"Your Majesty, the Huns have crossed our northern border." General Li knelt on the ground and eyed the said Emperor with concern and rage. The advisor of the Emperor shouted loudly, "Impossible! No one can get through the Great Wall!"

"Shan-Yu is leading them." The Emperor furrows his brows as the General continues to speak, "We'll set up defenses around the palace immediately."

Finally, the Emperor stands up from his throne and points, "No! You send your troops to protect the people."

"Chi-Fu?" The Emperor says. His voice was stern. So much so as if he weren't asking... But demanding.

"Yes, your highness?" The advisor bows, his board in his left hand. The Emperor stepped down the stairs and continued to order, "Deliver conscription notices throughout all the provinces..."

"Call up reserves and as many new recruits as possible." The Emperor knew General Li's army couldn't stop the dedication and megalomania fury inside Shan-Yu. But General Li couldn't, "Forgive me, Your Majesty, but I believe my troops can stop him."

The Emperor stood close to the man, "I won't take any chances, General. A single grain of rice can tip the scale." The elderly man gestured to his fingers, putting them close to signify the rice.

"One man may be the difference between victory and defeat."

Timeskip - Your POV᯽︎

Your father entered your home, his head looking down as he carried his helmet. He stood at the threshold and your heart ached. It must've been a terrible day.

"Father! You're back!" You smile, looking at the man to give him a hug. He returned it sadly and you just know.

"Where is Shang? I need to speak to you both." Your father's stern voice rang throughout the home.

"Shang is here. I don't know where."

Just then, your older brother entered, "Father, you're here. I didn't think you'd be back so soon." Shang welcomed his father with a bow and smile.

"My children, the Huns invaded the Great Wall. Because of this, there will be a war." Your mouth was hung agape.

Never did you think there would be war. Not so soon.

"Shang, I am taking you with me to this war." Your father looked straight at your brother and you only panicked more.

"Wait! Father! You can't bring Shang to this! He's too young!" Your father shook his head. It's wrong to do what you're doing but you cared for your brother. You've never been separated from him.

"Y/n, if you are adamant on staying with Shang, we will bring you with us. But that means you will abide by the rules I give you and not harm yourself."

In a month, you'll be going to the matchmaker. You're supposed to bear sons for the future of China but... Well, you don't know. Using your hips to push children out and be worried for your husband's return from every war doesn't sound like a pleasant future to you. But there were more reasons why you couldn't do the matchmaking. You just don't know for right now.

"I'll do it. I'll do whatever it takes if it means you're both safe."

"You should pack for tomorrow. We'll be going to Wu Zhong camp in the morning. That's when both your jobs will begin." Your father left the room with a huff. You know he didn't like the decision to bring you along. But it's too much for you to just stand alone in a home to wait for your family to return.... If they return...
