"I survived on scraps.Canned food, cockroaches, anything I could find. You know the rumor that Twinkies have an endless shelf life? Well, it's total bullshit." Five explained.
"I can't even imagine." Vanya admitted.
[Y/N] nodded along with her sister. "It sounds horrible."
Five nodded. "You do whatever it takes to survive or you die. So, we adapted. Whatever the world through at us, we found a way to overcome it."
"We?" [Y/N] asked with a quirked eyebrow.
"You got anything stronger?" Five asked his now older sister.
"Really, alcohol now?" [Y/N] asked him.
He just shrugged at her as Vanya went to pour a glass of alcohol for them. Vanya handed the two thirteen year olds each a cup of alcohol. [Y/N] took Five's cup and poured hers into his before passing it back to him.
"You think I'm crazy." Five told Vanya after taking a sip from his cup.
"No. It's-it's-its- it's just... it's a lot to take in." Vanya explained.
"Yeah, like how are we suppose to to process that the only world we've ever known is going to be gone in eight days?" [Y/N] said, agreeing with Vanya.
"Exactly what don't you understand?" Five asked them with a little added forced venom in his words.
"Why didn't you just time travel back?" Vanya asked him.
Five scoffed. "Gee, wish I'd thought of that. Time travel is a crapshoot. I went into the ice and never acorn-ed. You think I didn't try everything to get back to my family? To get back to my snowflake?" [Y/N] turned to him and felt a sort of pull on her heart at his words.
"If you grew up there, you know, in the apocalypse, how come you still look like a kid?" Vanya asked him.
He scoffed again. "I told you already." the boy went to pour more alcohol into his cup. "I must have gotten the equations wrong."
"I mean, Dad always used to say that... time travel could mess up your mind. Well, maybe that's what's happening?" Vanya tried.
"This was a mistake. You're too young... too naive to understand. C'mon, [Y/N]." he grabbed her hand and the two went to leave.
"No. Five... five, wait." Vanya said, making him stop. "I haven't seen you in a long time, and I don't want to lose you again. That's all. And you know what, it's getting late, and... I have lessons early, and I need to sleep, and I'm sure you do, too." Vanya went to the couch and pulled out some blankets. "Here. You two can share if you want. We'll talk in the morning again. Okay? I promise. Night." And with that she walked to her room.
Five sat down on the couch, and [Y/N] followed suit, sitting beside him. She rested her head on his shoulder as he got out a glass eye from his pocket. He sighed, looking at the eye and turning it to the back to read the serial number under the Meritech logo.
"You wanna come with or do you want to sleep?" Five asked her.
[Y/N] turned to him. "What are we doing?"
"Finding out who this eye belongs to. C'mon." he took her hand and lead her out of the apartment.
"Five, did you mean what you said?" [Y/N] asked him as she took a hold of his arm.
"Hmm?"
"About me being your snowflake?" [Y/N] asked.
"Yeah, yeah, I did. Now, let's go find that owner." he told her.
The two teenagers (that weren't really teenagers) walked to the Meritech building and walked inside of it in the early hours of the morning. The doctor came just as they were about to leave. "Uh, can I help you?" he asked them.
"I need to know who this belongs to." Five explained, holding up the glass eye for the doctor to see.
"Where did you get that?" the doc asked.
"What do you care?" [Y/N] squeezed his arm to tell him to change his tone. "I... I found it... at a playground actually. Must've just," Five clicked his tongue, "popped out." Creepy smile. "I wanna return it to its rightful owner."
"Oh... what a thoughtful young man." the lady behind the desk said.
"Yeah, look up the name for me, will ya?" Five told her.
"Uh, I'm sorry, but patient records are strictly confidential." the doc told them. "That means I can't-."
"Yeah, I know what it means." Five cut him off.
"But I'll tell you what I can do. I will take the eye off your hands and return it to the owner. I'm sure he or she will be very grateful, so if I can just-."
"Yeah, you're not touching this eye." Five told him.
"Now, you listen here, young man-."
Five grabbed the doctor by the collar. "No! You listen to me, asshole. I've come a long way for this, through some shit your pea brain couldn't even comprehend, so just give me the information I need, and I'll be on my merry way. And if you call me 'young man' one more time, I'm gonna put your head through that damn wall."
"Oh dear." the lady behind the counter said alreayd reaching for the phone before the doc even said, "Call security."
"Five, let's get out of here, please." [Y/N] whispered to him.
He obliged and got off the man before the two teenagers left the building. [Y/N] squeezed his arm. He was still angry, frustrated, and annoyed. "Calm down, Five. Calm down. It's okay. I think I have an idea."
"You do?" she nodded.
