Sam and the pack came in about three or four hours later. No one had a scratch or a bruise. Everyone was here.

"Sammy!" I hugged Sam. "Thank God you boys are okay!"

"I thought this was Emily's job," Sam joked. "I told you we'd be fine, didn't I?"

"Actually, I had to convince myself that you'd actually be fine." I told him.

Paul came in, limping and half-dead. In making sure Collin, Brady, and the other newest pack members were fine, I'd forgotten about Paul.

"Paul!" I rushed to his aid. "What happened? Sam, you said there wasn't any fighting!"

"Not...the Volturi..." Paul groaned in pain. "The white haired one...Vladimir..."

"Vladimir and Stefan," Seth gasped. "Why would they do this?"

"They...wanted...Miley..." He squeezed his eyes as I lowered him onto the couch. Two years ago, I'd slapped him for nearly messing up Emily's beautiful furniture. But now...his life was on the line, and I didn't care who or what got dirty in the process of him getting better. "I...told them...they couldn't have her...they attacked me."

"Why would they want Smiley?" Brady asked curiously.

"The day she'd come to see Jake was the day Vladimir and Stefan arrived. I guess they couldn't smell the wolf in her, just the blood. Maybe they took a liking to her." Leah said.

"Quit talking about me like I'm not here," I mumbled. "Jare, go get Carlisle."

      "I'm not–"

      "Now, Jared!" I barked viciously.

He was out the door as soon as his name left my lips.

"Told you being a mother would come in handy," Emily whispered.

"I'm sorry about all the blood, Ems. I'll replace it all–"

"No! You won't be replacing anything!" She told me. "I agreed to this life. I love the boys, Miley. If I didn't, this wouldn't be my fifth new couch in four years."

"I've been with you guys in this life for two years, how did I not know this?"

She looked down at her stomach and put a hand on it. "I'm pretty good at keeping secrets...for awhile, in some cases."

I squealed. "Em, that's so awesome!"

"I'm half dead and you're squealing about how awesome something is?" Paul sighed.

"You'll be fine. Carlisle's coming." I told him. "He wouldn't let me down. He owes me too much."

"Yes, I do," Carlisle's soft, caring voice said from the doorway. "What's happened to him?"

"Vladimir and Stefan attacked him," Emily said. She went into the story we'd heard from Paul.

      "Enough talking...please." Paul groaned.

"You'll be fine, Paul," Carlisle said after he looked at Paul's wounds. "I'll give you very strong pain killers, but that's the best I can do."
