Hi. Hello. It has been a while haha. So, 2020 is a thing that is happening as of now. How joyous. Anyway, how has your quarantine been? Are you getting enough sustenance?

By the way, if you think this pandemic is 'not real', then go back to 1918 and meet my friend, the Spanish Flu. For the love of all that if holy... STAY THE F- HOME. Now, I don'y want to get necessarily political here, but those protesting against quarantine- [Screams]

My apologies. This is a lovely little factual 'book' now is it now? No mental breakdowns permitted. :3

Small In the Revolutionary War

Back in the good ole 1770's, smallpox was a bitch. Truly. George Washington acknowledged this situation, as the Continental Army was infected with the deadly disease. So, in 1777, he required all new recruits to be inoculated(or variolation, a risky procedure that led to minor infection and hopefully lifelong immunity).

"Finding the smallpox to be spreading much and fearing that no precaution can prevent it from running thro' the whole of our Army, I have determined that the Troops shall be inoculated. This Expedient may be attended with some inconveniences and some disadvantages, but yet I trust, in its consequences will have the most happy effects." - George Washington to William Shippen, Jr., February 6, 1777

Variolation was "technically outlawed by the Continental Congress, so Washington was openly flouting the law". "Whole divisions were inoculated and quarantined en masse, a process that would continue for months. Strict secrecy was maintained to prevent the British from uncovering the program, lest they launch an attack upon the recovering troops. By year's end, 40,000 soldiers were immunized."

"The results were stunning. The smallpox infection rate in the Continental Army rapidly 17 percent to one percent, prompting the Continental Congress to legalize variolation across the states."
