bearing fruit //4-16-20//

a tree without fruit
makes the gods look like a fool,
for they may have spliced
each and every limb of every tree
into existence
making them seem
almost exactly the same
in stature and stance
[the only difference
being the fruit they bear]
so as for no imperfections
to be detected
[no living thing left unaccounted for]
but i carved the ocean
and filled it to the brim -
and they made the seas cry.
i stitched the stars into the sky -
and they couldn't even tell me why
they put them to sleep every morning.
i marked every person
with their own beauty
[some freckles and a mole,
others with golden flecked irises,
or others crooked teeth]
and they had the boldness
to make them insecure
of these qualities.

and you [my love] were made a tree
a tree without fruit, a vine,
he formed you and molded you,
but i gave you life.
