i thought the only way i could drown
was submerged head deep under water
[the waves thrashing at the surface,
pulling me too far under
to ever see the sun again]
turns out there are many ways to drown
that have nothing to do with water at all,
and don't you just find that funny?
my struggle to wade through
hip deep thoughts,
that you placed in my mind?
my belief that i'd be able to stay afloat,
even when the waves
were beginning to burn my lungs?
[i bet you did find it funny
because you never could be with
someone who was stronger than you,
someone you couldn't wash away]

i bet you laughed at the way
i talked of the moon
[how in love i was with its glow]
and how it created the tides
that washed me away
[isn't it funny that the thing
i fell in love with,
was the reason
i wouldn't ever breath again?]
