Chapter 13

Days pass me by in such a slow pace. I'm usually buried deep in paper work, but with all contracts on a stand still, I have nothing to do. So unless one of my siblings request my assistance, or signature on something, I'm free.

Fang and Gülizar are the ones working on overdrive with all the court appearances they had to make on behalf of the company. They recommended that neither of us go to the courthouse. They knew how to work the system, and I guess they didn't want us interfering.

I still have bags and bags of money that have yet to be distributed to our creditors and our employees. Eric says it needs to be handled in a secure and efficient manner. So he has gone out of his way to build a system to make sure we keep track of every dollar. It's taking longer than expected. I don't necessarily feel comfortable having close to a billion in cash just casually stacked up in my office, but I don't have a choice.

Isla, on the other hand, has worked wonders with the media. Even with everything going on our image hasn't tainted. That's probably only because Isla has romanticized my parents marriage, and has emphasized on the generous donations we have made throughout the years.

"Marcus?" I swing around in my desk chair like a kid.

"What?" He answers without looking up from his phone. He paces back and forth, typing away at the device.

His black t-shirt compliments his toned body. His black jeans and combats boots just makes him look like a hot badass. What was I going to say again? Stop being a thirsty hoe, Chloe.

I clear my throat. The private moments we share need to go further, but we are constantly interrupted. Now is not the time to complain about that though. "You told me I have two questions. I want to ask one now." I make up my mind.

He puts his phone in his pocket to give me his full attention. His crosses his arms, making his muscles bludge. Did he really have to do that?

"Go ahead." He says.

I stand up and walk around. I take a seat on the corner of my desk so there's not barrier in front of us. "Why don't you like you're family?" I pay close attention to his reaction to my question.

He tenses and scowls at me. "Next."

"You can't 'next' my question."

"Why do you want to know that?"

"I just want to understand you. I mean your mom kinda left an impression. And I'm wondering if you're whole family is like that." I didn't want to bad mouth his mom, but I can tell she's a piece of work.

"No. They're nothing like, Giulia." He doesn't even call her 'mom'. There has to be a reason for that, but that's for another time.

"Okay. That doesn't answer my question. Why don't you like your family?" I ask again.

He thinks about it for a moment like he's remembering something. "Because I'm just like them."

How is he like them? What are they, assholes too? Are they always in a pissy mood as well? Or are they all in the bodyguard field? His answer makes no sense to me. How is his family the same? Leave it to him to be cryptic and leave me even more confused. "Thanks for being vague." I roll my eyes at him.

"I answered your question."

I sigh. "Yeah, I guess you did." Not like you're going to give me more than that even if I beg. I just wasted a perfectly good question on nothing. I need to be more detailed with my next question, since it'll be my last.

My alarm goes off, making me jump a little. "Looks like it's time to cook lunch. Let's go to the kitchen?" I jump off my desk. My heels click on the floor. I readjust my plaid skirt before having him lead me to my private kitchen downstairs.
