The last few months pasted before it was time for the Magic Knights entrance exam. Y/N was finishing filling his bag with the necessary supplies that he would need. Father Seth entered his room, "Y/N, are you ready?" Y/N nodded, "Yes, I just finished getting the last of my things." The two of them exit the church where Julius was waiting. Julius smiled, "Well, it seems that you're ready to go. Oh, what happened to your grimoire?" Julius pointed to the seven leaf grimoire that was now smaller than when Y/N had received it. Y/N replied, "I learned a spell to alter its form in order to carry it easily. It just makes sense to have a lighter grimoire." Julius's eyes sparkled in excitement, "Wow. Incredible. I never knew that that was even possible. You're really amazing. I'm so glad that you decided to join the Magic Knights." Y/N glared at him, "I didn't really have much of a choice. The two of you kept bothering me about it and I was worried that if I missed this chance then you would continue to bother me for another year. Plus, I was worried when I met you." Julius asked, "What do you mean?" Y/N said, "Well, despite the fact that you're the Wizard King, you felt the need to guilt trip a teenager into joining the Magic Knights. I would ask if you had any shame in asking such a thing, but your clothing choice answer that for me." Julius began crying a little at Y/N's words. Father Seth smacked the back of Y/N's head, "Don't talk like that to the Wizard King!" Julius stood up, "I'm used to it, but I'm worried about how the people in the capital will react to it." Y/N said, "If I'm lucky, none of the captains will want me and I'll be able to leave that place." Julius said, "Well, we should get going or well be late." Y/N nodded. Father Seth hugged the young man, "Be sure to write me letters if you get in." Y/N hugged him back, "I will." Julius grabbed Y/N and transported them to the capital. Y/N looked around in awe. Julius pointed to a large stadium in the middle of the city, "The exam is being held there. By the way, have you decided on a squad?" Y/N said, "No, but I guess I'll just take any that accepts me." Julius said, "Well, what about the Black Bulls?" Y/N raised an eyebrow, "Why did you pick that squad?" Julius said, "Well, I know the captain. I appointed him myself." Y/N frowned, "That concerns me." Julius frowned, "Well I still think you should join them. I mean, there aren't any nobles, they're more free, they don't worry about their appearance or rank..." Y/N glared at the man. Julius looked away, "And you might help them get a better reputation." Y/N frowned, "So you want me to join the Black Bulls so that they don't look as bad." Julius said, "I have a dream... that one day, I will receive a report that doesn't say that the Black Bulls caused some damage to a town." Y/N let out a sigh, "Fine. If I get chosen by the Black Bulls, I'll join for your sake." As Y/N turned, Julius hugged him tightly, "Oh, thank you. Thank you. Anyway, I have to go back to work. Good luck and I hope to see you soon." With that, the two of them parted ways.
Y/N got in the line of candidates for the exam. He was standing behind two other commoners, one of which was really loud. He waited until he reached the front of the line. The register said, "Grimoire please." Y/N took out his grimoire and gave it to the register. The register was surprised by the grimoire's appearance but quickly registered Y/N, "You're number 166." Y/N took back his grimoire and entered the stadium. There were other applicants waiting with anti birds that were attacking some. One of the applicants said that they attacked people with weak magic. Y/N looked around and saw that the anti birds seemed to be trying to avoid him. He looked around and saw one of the boys that were in front of him in the line. The anti birds were also avoiding him. The loud boy that was with him was running trying to escape the many anti birds that were attacking him. The first boy called out, "Asta, what are you doing?" Asta was yelling out, "Ah, get away you dumb birds!" He then ran into someone, causing the birds to become afraid and fly away. Asta let out a sigh of relief, "Woo. Sorry about that. Didn't see you there." The tall man he had run into turned to him, "You wanna die punk?" Asta and several other applicants tensed in fear. The man looked like a killer. Asta smiled and said, "Wow, you look really old for your age. You must've had a rough life." Everyone just stared. The man grabbed Asta's head and began crushing it, "Looks like you are looking to die." Just then, another person called out, "Captain Yami, please don't go killing the new recruits." The applicants began chattering, "That's Finral Roulcause, the spatial magic user. I heard that he flirts with girls so often that it gets in the way of his missions." Finral was in fact flirting with one of the applicants at that very moment. Someone else said, "That next to him must be Gordon Agrippa, that incantation mage. He looks creepy." The man that grabbed Asta's head was counting down, "Eight, seven, six..." Asta asked, "What's the countdown for?" The man replied, "The end of your life." Asta let out a scream. Someone said, "Then that must be the captain, Yami Sukehiro, the god of destruction himself. He and the rest of the Black Bulls are know to cause all sorts of trouble wherever they go. They're known as the worst Magic Knights squad." Y/N stared at the odd group and thought, 'Yeah, Julius made a bad choice making him captain.' Just then, the exam began. Yami released Asta, "Looks like you get to live another day. Make sure to appreciate it." Finral asked, "What were you even doing down here?" Yami replied, "I was taking a dump and got lost." The applicants turned to the podium where the rest of the Magic Knight Captains were standing. The captain of the Golden Dawn, William Vangeance spoke, "Greetings. Welcome all applicants to the Magic Knights exam. I will be overlooking the exam this time. Each of you will be tested in a variety of tests that will help us captains determine if you are worthy of joining our ranks. Once your number is called at the end of the exam, we will raise our hands to offer a place in our squads. It is up to you to decide whether or not to accept the offer. If more than one captain raises their hand, you may choose which squad you will join. Needless to say, if none of the captains raise their hands, you have been judged as unfit to join the Magic Knights. Now, let us begin the exam. Tree, descend." A tree began to descend from the sky and gave out brooms to each of the applicants. Vangeance said, "Broom riding requires mana control and is the basic skill needed to join the Magic Knights. Anyone who cannot handle this is unworthy of being picked for the Magic Knights. Now, begin." The applicants got on their brooms and began flying. Some of them had trouble. Y/N sat on his broom. He had never flown on one before, since there was never a need to, but he did surprisingly well. Y/N flew higher and saw that the boy who had called out to Asta before was standing on his broom while flying high. Meanwhile, on the ground, Asta wasn't able to get his broom to fly at all. Y/N looked at the other boy, "Hmm, I feel like I should know him, but from where?" As Y/N thought, he played a little with his magic. The captains watched him. Vangeance saw him, "A light magic user? Now that's rare." Nozel said, "Indeed. Only a few people in the country's history have ever had that magic. How did a peasant like that get such a rare form of magic?" Charlotte said, "It doesn't matter. He probably can't use it to well." Gueldre said, "I bet he would make an excellent worker. His light magic can probably be useful." Rill said, "It would make a pretty color to use in my drawings." Dorothy just snored in response. Jack said, "I would like to slice him to see how fast his light magic really is." Fuegoleon said, "Don't expect too much of him. He's only an untrained child. He probably doesn't have that much experience using light magic because its rare and there's hardly any information on how to use it available, especially to commoners." Y/N flew close to the captains, "You do know that I can hear you! I'm glad that I already decided not to deal with those idiot captains." As the tests went on, Y/N continued to do well. For the final test, they were battling against each other. Y/N was looking for a person to fight against. He saw that Asta was fighting against someone with bronze magic. Once the opposing mage activated his spell, Asta brought out a giant sword and cut through the spell and defeat his opponent. Afterwards, Asta yelled out that he would become the Wizard King. Y/N suddenly remembered, "Damn it. He's that guy with the five leaf grimoire from Hage that Father Seth told me about. And that must mean that the other guy was the four leaf clover one, Yuno." Just as he said that, Yuno managed to defeat his opponent, a noble, with one blow. Y/N sighed, "If I win too, I'll probably have to deal with them again." Y/N felt someone tap his shoulder. He turned to see a noble, "Why don't you be my opponent?" Y/N nodded. As the two begun, the noble took out their grimoire, "Let's see how fast you fall." Y/N rolled his eyes and shot a beam of light that sent his opponent crashing into the wall. People began to talk, "Wow. That peasant just defeated a noble." "Yeah, and with just one hit." "And he didn't even bother using his grimoire. In fact, I'm pretty sure that he hasn't used it at all today." Yami glared at Y/N, "Guess you guys were wrong about him. He seems like one of the top contenders. Bet you regret talking smack about him earlier. He probably won't want to choose you anyways. Guess I'll scoop him up." The other captains frowned at Yami's words. The rest of the battles went on. Y/N waited until he was called while watching Yuno and Asta. Yuno choose to join the Golden Dawn while Asta was forced to join the Black Bulls because none of the other captains wanted him. Then, it was Y/N's turn. When he walked up to the podium, all nine of the captains raised their hands. People were in awe at the fact that another peasant managed to get all the captains to offer a position. Y/N said, "I'll join the Black Bulls since the captain is the only one who's not an asshole!" The other captains cringed as Yami laughed, "See?! Told ya that he wouldn't join ya. Now I got a wierdo and a powerhouse!" Y/N sighed, "I better not regret this Julius."
