Chapter eleven: "Hennessey and Zinfandel"

I had a shower and put my clothes on, it was 10pm.

I went downstairs and saw Harmony at the island with a bottle of Hennessey and a glass.

She took the last sip and poured herself a full glass. I was about to go wait outside for Molly even though she wasn't due a next thirty minutes.

"Darien wait." I stopped in my tracks and looked at Harmony.

"Sit," I sighed, "it's ok Harmony–"

"Just sit, I need to tell you this, I need to,"

I sat down beside her and she looked at me with tired, teary eyed.
She took a deep breath and drank more of the alcohol from her glass.

"Darien, if you got to read that note properly that was my girlfriends suicide note. She died three years ago, just before her birthday," she broke down.

"I loved her with all my heart, I wanted to marry her, I haven't felt anything for anyone since, but you, you came along,"

"Then you kissed me and I came up with excuses to hide my feelings, I'm afraid to get close to anyone ok, after Royalty I haven't been with anyone, I just couldn't love anyone."

"You really loved this woman didn't you? But you said you weren't gay," I looked down

"I didn't want trouble."

"I'm sorry I'm trouble for you Harmony, I'll leave you alone if you want me too." I heard a car horn outside.

"You should go,"

"If you need me to stay I can," she shook her head, "go you don't have to baby me," she smiled weakly.

I left and went into Molly's car, "you ready?" I nodded and we drove to to the restaurant.

When we got inside she widened her eyes, "Jesus Dari your neck man," she laughed and we went to our seat.

Everyone was there, Lee, Melissa, Grayson, Henry, Yvonne and Rosie. They turned their attention to me.

"Wow ok Darien, brave," Lee laughed.

"You and Lia seem to be closer," Rosie drank the wine from her glass.

"Tea," Henry coughs and everyone laughs.

I roll my eyes, "y'all can't say shit, I had a threesome what do y'all have onesomes and handsomes?"

"Oh shit!" Molly laughs, "that's just shade, Lee and I hand a lil Twinkie the other day."

Yvonne choked on her water and I busted out laughing.

"I'm just over here think about the fact that she said handsomes," Molly laughed.

"Guys I'm starving, so can we order?" They agree and we start with drinks and appetizer.

"We should have the Zinfandel red, I heard its pretty good," I ordered two bottles and we also got a bowl of their vegetable soup each.

It was honestly not that great but the ambiance was lovely. There was a soft piano melody and the lights were dimmed down.

"So Lee, Henry, this Twinkie, how was he," I took a bite of my soup.

"He was delightful, a pale skin babe, with green eyes. He's gorgeous and oh so sexy y'all should have seen him," Henry says.

"You sound like you love him more that me," Lee laughs, "tell us about your girl,"

"Her name is Tessa, damn she was just a playgirl, like written all over her. She had short curly hair and the sexiest lips I've ever seen." I laughed.

"You sound in love," Melissa made everyone laugh.

We finished and then ordered the entrée. It was a special dish for tonight, Caribbean spiced, organic, king fish and red stripe, barbecued, pork ribs.

The side order was sweet, boiled, corn or sweet, potato salad.

We got the corn and a bottle of white wine. I poured myself a glass of red wine and sipped it.

"You seem to have a taste for that thing huh?" Rosie asked.

"It's delicious, tell me I'm lying,"

"Its great," Henry said.

We ate our meal and at the end I think everyone was too full to eat dessert.

"We have a special tonight, it's the best brownies you'll taste, I promise," the waiter advertised.

We ordered and I'm so glad we did, it was a dark chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. And Hersey's kisses.

"Mmm,this is delicious," Lee smiles and we agree with him. Once were finish eating we split the bill and said our goodbyes.

Molly drove me home about 11:00pm, I went inside, the door was unlocked.

I was suspicious maybe she left it open for me but something felt wrong. I looked around and she wasn't downstairs. So I went upstairs my room was untouched.

My phone rang, "hey Darien, just wanted to say goodnight bae, love you,"

"Goodnight Lia, love you too, see you tomorrow ok,"

"Yeah," how'd she know my plans, I rolled my eyes and laughed. I put my phone down and sighed deeply

Then I went into Harmony's room and saw her on the floor passed out. My heartbeat quickened and I ran over to her.

"Harmony," I held her in my lap, "Harmony!" There was no response.

She wasn't moving and I couldn't call anyone, I knew what this was. There was two empty Hennessey bottles on the floor and a bottle of pills.

My eyes were cloudy from tears that kept spilling, but I pulled her into the shower.

I turned on the water and sat facing the drain with her between my legs. I pushed two fingers to the back of her mouth and she gaged. I did it again and she began throwing up.

There was tons of liquid with pills on top of pills. She groaned and I pushed my and in her mouth again. She threw up even more pills and started to cry.

I held her in my arms as we both got soaked by the water.

"D–Darien, I'm..." She tried speaking, "shh, its ok, it's alright your fine, you'll be just fine."

I held her closer and she began to cry hard, "sh sh sh, its ok Harmony, I'm here,"

I held her tighter and try not to make any sounds as I cried. She needed me right now and I couldn't be weak.

She gaged and leaned forward as she threw up again. I ran my hands through her hair as we sat there crying.

Almost and hour later we got out and I helped her get some clothes, we changed and sat on her bed.

I sat behind her and dried her hair with a towel.

"Thank you," she laid on her bed and I dried my hair and watched her until she drifted off.

I broke down crying as I hugged her completely tired body. Tears flowed heavily and I tried hard to stop them.

I didn't sleep at all that night, I watched her and got alarmed at any sudden move she made.
