Chain Reaction

Eight

He sat alone in the streets silently, watching busy people walk by, he remained quiet as stayed hidden in the alley, waiting for something to happen, he sat in the filth, he didn't know his parents but he hated them, he didn't understand why they had left him to fend for himself for the four years he's been alive, he hated how people walked by and paid him no attention, or even cared that a four year old was sitting in the soaking wet alley

but his ears perked up as he tilted his head towards the sound of gun shots, yelling and screams, he watched as people ran past, someone tripped, or so he thought, but instead they remained unmoving as a thick red liquid covered the pathway, he stared at the liquid and could see the grey sky reflecting off of it, and he liked the sight of a crimson sky as more gun shots rang out

soon enough the yells and screams fell silent and the sound of sirens ringing off in the distance was all he could hear blaring in his ears, and then more gun shots being fired, he didn't know how long it had been since this started, but there were paramedics by the bodies in front of him, it startled him when one of the nurses noticed him and slowly moved towards him

"Hey, hey it's okay, it's okay" They said softly in a way to try and comfort the small blue hedgehog who sat in the dirty water who backed away slowly, the nurse frowned and stopped and sat a few meters away to try and calm the hedgehog down "Where are your parent's sweetie?" they tried asking, but frowned from the lack of answer, but took a closer look at the younger hedgehog and saw how filthy and rugged they were "Oh... I see, it's okay, I won't hurt you, I just want to help" they smiled softly and waited for the younger hedgehog to approach

it took awhile to get the hedgehog to come closer, but when the child came up to them, they got a better look of the other and gave a small from when they saw a few infected cuts and some bruises 

"let's get you fixed up shall we" The nurse smiled softly at the four year old hedgehog who only tilted their head "Do you have a name?" the hedgehog only shook their head no, the nurse let out a soft hum as they thought of a name to call the small hedgehog "How about Sonic?" They smiled when the hedgehogs ears perked up at the name they had suggested, the nurse let out a soft laugh "then it's decided, Sonic it is"

"M-Mummy? D-Daddy?" A small voice whimpered as forest eyes peaked downstairs as, but all he saw was blood all over the floor, his mother lying there still, his father standing over her, blood on his hands and a dazed expression, yet his attention had been averted to the smaller hedgehog, who watched in terror at what his father had done

Yet as he looked into his father's eyes there was no recognition as the older hedgehog looked into his son's eyes, but instead there was a look that made the younger hedgehog run and hide in the bathroom, tears rolling down his cheeks as he tried his best to muffle his sobs, even as his father started banging on the door repeatedly

"Hey Baby~" His father's voice sent chills down his spine as he cowered  "Come on~ Just let me in and we can have some fun~" yet the small child only whimpered as they sat in the corner, but the door was soon knocked down and he met eyes with his father once again, and he screamed out of terror as his father came towards him, yet that's when there was a loud sound coming from down stairs

his father was distracted for a moment as he had grabbed hold of his son to shut him up, but the small blue hedgehog bit into his father's hand and began kicking his legs, the taste and smell of blood hit him and made him back as the older hedgehog let out an angered and pained yelp and let the younger hedgehog fall to the ground with a thud an a painful snap

But his father had fallen back and slammed his head on the rim of the bath tub and he didn't move as there were rushed footsteps running up stairs, the young hedgehog only watched in silent terror as blood began to pool and run down the sides of the bath, the gasp that was heard from the door never drew his attention away from his father's body

"we need a medical team here stat" the one who had found heir way to the bath room said into the communicator on their wrist, and slowly advanced toward the child 'Kid are you all right?" they asked, but didn't receive an answer as they couldn't look away from the gruesome sight, the officer frowned as soon enough a medical team arrived and took the two bodies away and dealt with the child's broken leg, he said nothing as the officer that had been with him in the bathroom stayed by his side

"What's you name Honey?" The nurse asked as she wrapped a bandage around his leg until they made it to the hospital to treat it proper

"Zaurice...." Was their answer, it was just barely above a whisper, the nurse and the officer frowned, but knew that nothing could be done to help the small hedgehog forget what he had seen

The small green hedgehog sat as he watched his parents argue, he paid them no attention as he glanced out the window as rain poured down out side, the choa plushie that his mother had given him for his birthday a week before

'You need to spend time with your son Julius!"  He heard his mother yell

"I have more important things to do Scarlet" His father yelled back

"What's more important than you own fucking son?!" Scarlet snapped and glared at her husband

"Keeping this damn Zone in one piece! Nine hundred years of evil! and I'm the only one that's made a difference here!" Julius growled

"Your no different than anyone" Scarlet hissed as she slapped her the older hedgehog across the face, leaving him stunned "You'll regret never spending time with Scourge! And I hope this bites you in the ass, Scourge hun come on it's past your bed time" She said as she turned away from Julius and went towards her son

"Okay Mum" Scourge mumbled as he tore his gaze away from the window and followed his mother upstairs, leaving his father with a forming bruise across his face and the thoughts his wife put into his head
