I jolted forward as I heard glass shatter, watching Mark do the same. Jace was downstairs. I got up, grabbing my axe and ran to the living room. When I arrived I saw a body lying on the floor, Jace was covered in blood.

   "Are you okay?" I asked

"Shh!" He hushed cutting open the body

   "What are you-"

"Shh!" He hushed a little louder as he smeared the guts of the zombie on himself

   "Jace, what the-"

"Shut up before they hear you." He said as he smeared some of the guts on me "They can't smell you now."

I sat quietly, very confused by his actions as I watched three zombies walk straight past us and out the open door. How did he learn this? once the coast was clear Jace stood up, helping me to my feet.

"How did you learn that?" I asked

"A few close calls when I snuck out to help the neighbors." He smiled

   "Jace Malcolm Eugene." I scoffed

"We can't stay here much longer." Mark said making his way downstairs

"The hoard is getting hungry. I haven't seen anyone out in forever." I sighed

"Where what colony we heard about?" Mark asked "Why are you-"

"Hides our smell from the zombies. I'm gunna run upstairs and wash off. Sean you probably should too. No telling how long it takes before the smell becomes impossible to remove." Jace laughed

"You're going to have a cold shower?" Mark asked

"Eh. It's just a temperature. You get used to it after a minute." Jace shrugged making his way upstairs

Mark and I pulled out the map, looking at different trails to take.

"It could take weeks to get there." He sighed

"This looks like the shortest and safest way." I said pointing to a trail

"Yeah. It will probably take a week, that's if we take minimal breaks." Mark said

"It's our best bet. We can't stay here much longer. It's not safe." I reminded him

"I wonder." He said suddenly "What if we stopped here. The horses ma still be there."

   "Horses? Seriously?" I asked

"It would make the trip shorter." He said

"Yeah, but A. We don't know how to care for horses, B. We  can't feed a horse." I reminded him

"Sean, Jace knows a offal lot about horses, his aunt owned the farm. I bet they're still there."

"You're going to take Jace, to his aunts farm?" I questioned

"Sean, do you have any better ideas? We won't make it on foot, and there's no way we can drive." Mark told me

"Alright. We can check it out." I sighed heavily

"I knew you two would use those brains of yours at some point." Jace laughed "Sean should go shower and then we can check out the horses. She had 14 last time I was there, about a year ago. Trigger will be happy to see me." Jace smirked

I rolled my eyes and went upstairs, dreading this shower. I was in and out as quickly as I could be. Then I got dressed into some clean cloths and went downstairs. Carefully we made our way down the road. It was about a 10 minute walk before we arrived, and things did not look good for his aunt. Jace sighed as he entered the house. The first thing he did was look in the freezer.
