Mothwing woke up with a jolt. Leafpool filled her thoughts, as she remembered the distressed look on her friend while at the Moonpool. Why won't she tell me what's wrong? , Mothwing thought.

"Mothwing! Come quick!" Mothwing looked up and saw a panicked Mosspelt glaring at her with worry flickering in her blue eyes.

"What happened?" Mothwing mewed with concern. Mosspelt answered immediately her whiskers quivering with fear.

"It's Pebblepaw", the tortoiseshell explained. "He's refusing to eat, and looks as if he's on his way to StarClan!." Mothwing scrambled to her paws and followed Mosspelt to the Apprentices' den.

Pebblepaw was stirring in his nest as if he couldn't get comfy. Mothwing padded over tho the young apprentice.  She gave him a good sniff and asked him what hurt.  "I have a sore in my belly and I feel full," he told the medicine cat.

"Was it some prey you ate?" His mentor asked padding over to where the two cats were. Just then Willowpaw burst through the Apprentices' den.

"Mothwing we need you", she panted.

The RiverClan med was stunned. "Well? What is it?"

"It's Beechfur, he told me had pain in his belly last night so I gave him som Chervil root, this morning when I went to check on him, he told me the pain was worse! Oh, Mothwing. I don't know what to do!" Willowpaw stared at her paws, guilty for giving cat herbs without permission.  "I'm sorry!"  She wailed, waiting for her scolding.

Instead, Mothwing just looked at her in shock.  "For what, doing what you thought was best? Willowpaw, don't apologize for trying to make a cat feel better.  We all make mistakes, and we all learn from those mistakes."  Mothwing looked at her apprentice, a little frustrated that she apologized for doing her job.

"S-so your not mad? Can I still be your apprentice?"  Willowpaw asked.

"Have you got bees in your brain? Of course, you can!  Besides, I need the extra help in sorting herbs.  Now, how about you give Beechfur some watermint, then come help me with Pebblepaw."

Willowpaw nodded fiercely, "I won't let you down" She promised, then ran out of the apprentices' den.

"Now, let's get back to Pebblepaw.", the golden she-cat mewed.  Mothwing pressed her paws onto the apprentice's belly and started to gently massage it.  "Can you tell me where it hurts?" Mothwing asked him.

"Maybe it was something you ate?" Mosspelt mewed impatiently, clearly worried about her apprentice.

Mothwing glared at the senior warrior.  "I understand that you're worried, but please, let the medicine cats handle this."  She shewed Mosspelt out of the apprentices' den and carried Pebblepaw into the medicine den.

Mothwing padded to the Warriors' den, expecting to see Willowpaw with Beechfur.  She had found out that Pebblepaw ate a bad mouse, found on the border of WindClan.  Now she wanted to see how Willowpaw was handling Beechfur, so she was surprised when she didn't see Willowpaw nor Beechfur. Maybe Willowpaw took Beechfur out for some fresh air. Mothwing sniffed around, hoping to find her apprentice.  As she padded out of the Warriors' den, she spotted Beechfur sharing a fish with Rippletail.  Beechfur might know where Willowpaw has gone, I'll ask him once he's finished eating.

Once Beechfur finished his fish, he got up heading to the Warriors' den.  Mothwing stood in his way.  "hello Beechfur, how is your belly feeling", Mothwing asked in her sweet voice.

" oh-er-hi Mothwing", Beechfur stuttered.  "My belly is still a bit sore, but Willowpaw gave me some juniper berries to help."

Mothwing nodded, even though she knew that Beechfur needed watermint.  "Um- Where has Willowpaw gone, I can't seem to find her anywhere in the camp."  Mothwing looked hopefully at Beechfur.

"Umm, she told me that she was going to get some fresh air to clear her mind."  Beechfur shrugged at Mothwing then padded to the Warriors' den.

Fresh air huh?

Mothwing was close to the WindClan border when she spotted Willowpaw sitting alone.  "Willowpaw?" Mothwing called out. "Are you alright?"

Willowpaw peered behind her shoulder.   "Oh hi Mothwing, I'm ok, I just needed to clear my head."

Mothwing nodded at her apprentice.  "why did you give Beechfur juniper berries when I asked you to give him watermint?" Mothwing asked her apprentice.

Willowpaw gave her mentor a knowing look.  "I checked, we don't have so much as a leaf left."

Mothwing let out an exasperated sigh.  "all right I'm going out to collect some watermint." She started to head towards the stream when she added, "You did good Willowpaw."   Willowpaw nodded her head in understanding, then darted off back to camp.

Mothwing made her way to the stream, where the Watermint grew.  She sprinted forward to where thick clumps of watermint were growing on each side of the stream, the purple flowers still visible at the end of the spiky stems.  She plunged in among the plants and began to pick the stems, biting them carefully toward the bottom.  She was about to pick another stem when a familiar scent filled all the air around her.

Mothwing looked up to see Leafpool on the other side of the stream taking some of the watermint for her clan.  She was so pretty with the soft drops of rain on her fur. Its as if her fur is sparkling. should I  call out to her? She looks so calm.  Mothwing's thoughts were interrupted when the ThunderClan medicine cat finally seemed to take notice in her and called Mothwing over to her.

"Mothwing, It's good to see you."  Leafpool purred loudly.

"It's good to see you too!"  Mothwing mewed as she made her way to the pretty she-cat. When she finally reached her friend she stopped.

"How are you, have you got belly sickness in your clan as well?"  Mothwing asked the brown tabby.

"Just a bit, Brackenfur has been complaining about it like a kit."  Leafpool, let out a mrrow of laughter.  "I'm really glad your here." , Leafpool breathed.  Mothwing rubbed her muzzle against  Leafpool's cheek.  Leafpool rubbed her flank against Mothwing.  Mothwing liked the feeling of her warm pelt next to hers.  She could feel Leafpool's purr flow from her body to her own.  She purred loudly, happy with where she was.

Just then, she could feel the warmth from her body start to fade.  Leafpool's purr got quieter.  Mothwing pulled away to look at her friend.  She stared into Leafpool's pretty amber eyes, yet she could see sadness in them.  Mothwing brushed her tail ever so gently against Leafpool's spine.  Something is clearly bothering her, why won't she tell me?  Frustration filled Mothwing's mind.  She hated seeing Leafpool suffer like this.  She just wanted to help.  "Leafpool.", Mothwing started.  "Please, tell me what's wrong."

Leafpool looked at Mothwing as sadness filled her eyes once again.

"Ok." Leafpool managed to choke out.  She looked around as though she was expecting something bad to come.  "But not here." Mothwing nodded wondering where they would go.  "Meet me at the gathering place, at midnight, and we can talk"  Leafpool promised.

Mothwing licked Leafpool's nose. "I'll be there."

Mothwing had reached the gathering place searching for Leafpool.  She then saw the shadow of a slim cat, the moonlight shining beautifully on her.  "Leafpool" she breathed.

Leafpool made her way towards the medicine cat and sighed.  "I had kits."
