The wind was howling loudly, and the sound of the raindrops splashing on the roof of the cave began to wake Leafpool up.  The small brown tabby sat up, blinking a few times. Where am I?  Leafpool's head was spinning and her entire body was sore. Her white paws were covered in dirt and dry blood, she had cobwebs plastered all over her fur. Her eyelids were scratched, and she could barely open her eyes.  Leafpool shut her eyes for a moment, trying to recall what had happened after being attacked by the badger, but it was all a blur.  There was no trace of the badger that had nearly killed her.  The air was fresh with rain in fact, and there wasn't a single trace of any other cat than her.  Or was there?

Her gaze was drawn to the empty nest beside her.  Leafpool slowly headed towards the nest, treading her paws lightly.  Some other cat must have been here. She bent down slowly, her mussles sore, and sniffed the nest,e mind flooded with an image of Mothwing grooming her fur, and comforting her, she was in the same empty nest, Leafpool had just noticed.  Of course!  The memory began to trail back towards Leafpool.  Mothwing must have treated her wounds, she was such a smart medicine cat, even if she didn't share Leafpool's belief in StarClan.  Leafpool looked around for any sign of the golden pelt that she would always know, but there was nothing.  She must have taken a walk, Leafpool thought.  Her pelt prickled with unease. It was wet, and cold out there, Mothwing could be in danger.  She stepped outside, bristling as the chilly wind made her shiver, and the wet rain, soaked her pelt all the way through.  Leafpool pinned her ears, wary as she padded through the boggy forest.

She kept on going until her wounds began to hurt again.  She made a nest beside a small log, her moss was soaked, but she was too tired to care.  The trees above didn't do any good of sheltering her from the rain.  Leafpool rested her eyes, hoping that Mothwing would find her, she couldn't bare being out here, alone in the forest, and she was much too tired, and sore to head back to shelter.

Leafool's mind drifted to the time Mothwing had shared her secret about not sharing her belief in StarClan.  It was at a gathering when Mothwing opened up to her.  Leafpool always felt restless towards Hawkfrost, he was the reason Mothwing didn't belive in their ancestors.  Her mind filled with thoughts of Mothwing, and ThunderClan.  She wished she were back in ThunderClan, safe and sound beneath the warmth of the medicine den.  It would be nice to curl up beside Mothwing again, maybe she could join ThunderClan, then they could be together.  Leafpool blinked for a moment before realizing what she was thinking. Mothwing is the RiverClan medicine cat!!! What was I thinking?  Mothwing could never leave her Clan! and what for, so we can be closer together? Surprisingly, Leafpool would have liked the idea of being closer to the beautiful RiverClan medicine cat, but no matter how much she wanted it, that could never happen.  StarClan themselves had made the rules clear-StarClan. Leafpool thought. Starclan hadn't been doing her any favors lately, it was StarClan's fault that she had to lie to her whole clan!  That every step she took, every herb that touched her paws, was because of a lie!  Because StarClan gave her kits that she never asked for!!  no..it was my fault. My fault for falling in love with a WindClan warrior. Leafpool shook the thought out of her head. She had Crowfeather's kits, that was that. Crowfeather. Leafpools mind flooded with images of the handsome WindClan tom.  If it weren't for him, ThunderClan might not have a medicine cat right now... stop it Leafpool, you can't be thinking about him again!

She wanted to think of something else, so she closed her eyes tight, thinking of the dark ginger she-cat that she could always rely on. Squirrleflight.  The two sisters were much closer than most littermates, and they could always tell what the other one was feeling.  Suddenly her wet, cold flank, began to warm, and the sent of kits filled the air.  A small blazing orange tom-kit was sleeping next to Leafpool's sister, While a black she-kit rested beneath her mother's warm fur.  Leafpools gaze fell upon the small gray-blue tabby tom-kit, he looked so peaceful beside his sister.  Leafpool smiled seeing this kits-seeing her kits.  Suqirrleflight had taken care of her kits so she could continue being a medicine cat.  Leafpool sighed.  Her heart ached for her small kits.  They would never know who their real mother was, and she would never feel the joy of being a mother.  Why did she give up her kits?  The thought stung Leafpool like a sharp thorn in her heart that wouldn't come out. She clawed the wet, boggy ground beneath her paws, and her heart filled with anger and sadness.  Leafpool snapped out of the feeling, and her mind drifted back to the real world.

The cobwebs that were once perfectly arranged on her fur were now tangled and soaked, and her wounds began to bleed again, letting droplets of red stain the swampy ground.  Her head was spinning, and she fell to the ground, not being able to stay up.  Leafpool didn't bother to cover up her wounds again, she could bleed to death for all she cared.  She shut her eyes tight, not wincing at the cold water that soaked her fur.  Leafpool shivered on the ground and felt a  stream of blood pouring from her flank.  She couldn't hold it in any longer. Leafpool lifted her head and mewed softly to the stars.

"StarClan" Leafpool breathed.  "StarClan forgive me."  Leafpool felt almost sure that she would be walking among their ancestors soon.  She hoped that ThunderClan would find a new medicine cat.  Leafpool's head started spinning at the thought.  Would they really replace her that fast?  Of course, they would, if she weren't with them any longer, they would have no choice. Sighing sadly, Leafpool lifted her head and stared at the stars.  Her heart almost stopped when she noticed that two stars were much brighter than the others, but she must have imagined it because when she blinked, they were no longer there. Still, Leafpool starred at the stars for as long as she could.  Letting the rain soak through her fur, she shut her eyes tight, and her head fell back down, and the world went black.
