CPTSD is often left without a diagnosis. Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is commonly misdiagnosed. This is due to some similarities between the symptoms.

CPTSD is often still an unknown condition to many health officials.

Misdiagnosis can cause patients to get worse as they may get put on medication that can worsen symptoms rather than improve them.

This can be detrimental to people's mental health as they may believe there's no way to help them, that they've had their diagnosis and medicine isn't helping. People may hit rock bottom and think they cannot get out. Death and suicide seems the only way out.

This is why it is extremely important that health officials know of CPTSD and are able to diagnose it in a timely manner.

It is also possible to have both Borderline personality disorders and complex post traumatic stress disorder at the same time.
