We had moved outside after talking for some time, and at the moment Jeno and I were sitting in a comfortable silence in the hot summer night, the only interruptions being the occasional breezes that caressed my hot cheeks, cooling them for a moment only to be replaced by warmth afterwards. Like a little reminder of reality that was swept away as the alcohol once again took control of my thoughts. The wooden terrace was a bit uncomfortable to sit on, the hard surface made it necessary to shift my weight every so often, so, instead, I distracted myself by splashing my bare feet in the pool in front of us. It had been Jeno's idea to get some fresh air, and I had demanded that we moved to this spot in particular, since I hadn't had a chance to get outside ever since arriving here. He was barefoot as well, eyes closed as he leaned back on his hands and took a deep breath. the starry sky was blinking above us in the quiet night, and as I watched the glittering lights above me, a thought that I had been pushing away for days once again entered my mind.

"Jeno?" I asked, "Hmm?" he mumbled, his eyes still closed as I took him in, "Why did you do it?" I asked. He looked dark and mysterious in the darkness that surrounded us, but not dangerous. He looked intriguing. "Why did you take a bullet for me?" As the question slipped past my lips, I felt a sudden wave of insecurity flow throughout my entire body, "It was quite a move, don't you think? You don't even know me."

"You don't know me either, though," he responded. His voice was deep and a bit gruff, probably from the alcohol, "But you saved my life as well, y/n. You saved me anyway. Don't you think that was quite a move?"

I hummed at his answer, savoring his words as I went over them once again, my head felt heavy and hazy from the alcohol. I realized after a moment that he hadn't answered my question, though, he simply used my own words against myself. But before I had the chance to open my mouth and tell him, Jeno continued, "But I'd like to,"

"I'm sorry, what?"

"I'd like to get to know you," he said, eyes fluttering open, blinking a couple of times before turning his head towards me, his dark eyes finding mine. It would be a lie if I said that his words didn't have an effect on me, but I hoped that the blush that had spread across my cheeks would go unnoticed, considering that both of us were drunk. Clearing my throat, I brushed it off, "I believe that makes us even," I said, turning the conversation back to my own question.

"What does?"

"You saved my life, and I saved yours. Haechan's words," I said, looking up at the stars once again, getting lost in the blinking lights that decorated the dark sky.

"Tell me something," he said.

"Well, what do you want to know?"

"Anything, y/n, anything. Tell me about your life."

"Oh, I'm pretty sure you won't find me or my life that interesting, Jeno." I said, shaking my head for a moment but continuing nonetheless. "I'm just average, a regular girl." The words sounded boring and disappointing as they slipped over my lips. "I study medicine, but I already dropped out once, from law school, that is., and now I can't even go to school anymore because I made a stupid deal which technically made me a criminal."

"Why did you drop out?" he asked, dark eyes searching mine.

"Too many corrupt lawyers. Prosecutors that could be bought. If you have enough money you can bend the law, and I hated that." I said, "Kind of ironic though. I dropped out to get away from all of that, and here I am, for just enough money, I could be bought as well. You don't need to tell me that I'm a hypocrite, Jeno, I already know."

"I wasn't going to say that." But I knew that he wouldn't, he wasn't like that, I thought, taking a deep breath before continuing, "I stole something that I shouldn't have. And now I'm on the run from several mafias and involved with another one. I got kidnapped, beat up several times, and now I'm going to steal a fucking diamond." I said, feeling my voice shake towards the end. "I just want to become a doctor, or a surgeon. I want to succeed so badly. I want to make a difference, to save other people's læives, but I'm just a big mess who's in way over my head with this." I felt almost out of breath as I stopped talking, a moment of silence passing between us. I looked down at the water in the pool which was brightly lit by lamps underneath the restless surface, creating pretty patterns as I moved my feet back and forth.
