We're set to go on a mission in a few days so everyone is both excited and nervous. It shows at dinner when nobody says anything. There was little chatter in the dining hall. Nobody wanted to say anything, only the usual conversations but not too much chatter. As I leave the dining hall Erwin asks me to meet him in his office to address a few things.
I'm sitting in front of his desk, hands in my lap waiting. Hange is sitting eagerly beside me as Levi stands in his usual corner.
"So, I heard about the incident that occured at the cottage," I nod already knowing where this is going. "Do you know who it might have been?"
"I believe it might have been my brother, sir," I continue to look down at my hands.
"Your brother?"
"Yes, um..." I'm reminded of the day I killed him or so I thought I did, "A while ago..." I pause not knowing if I should say it.
"Say it," a cold voice comes from the corner matching the cold eyes glaring at me. I give an understanding nod and continue.
"A while ago I had no choice but to kill everyone in my family. If I hadn't...they would have killed me. I remember killing my brother first as he attacked me when I was going to kill my father. I remember his voice and the chuckle he gave when I was being...beaten." I look around the room but their faces remain stone cold so I look back at my hands.
"When I was on top of him at the cottage he chuckled. I recognized his voice but couldn't quite pinpoint where I knew it from. Until... the wind shifted his hood and I saw him."
"I see."
"They said they were simply finishing the job," I start to fidget feeling their stares on me.
"So, there was obviously a motive," pitches Hange and I give a small nod. There's silence as everyone takes in the information. Erwin clears his throat before adjusting his posture.
"Alright, thank you (y/n) you are dismissed," I stand up and salute them giving a thank you before heading out.
As soon as I close the door to my room, breathing gets hard. My chest falls and rises quickly as my hands start to tremble.
Now he's after me.
He could get into HQ before what's stopping him from entering again?
When will he strike again?
A knock at the door startles me but I can't bring myself to say anything. I'm shaking in the corner holding my knees up to my chest watching a shadow walk slowly towards me. I know who it is but I still feel on edge.
"Would you like for me to stay tonight?" Although I don't respond my eyes give him an answer. He helps me to bed and pulls me close. Even though i'm in the comfort of his hands I can't sleep.
I watch the sunrise as I get out of bed to sit at my desk, my head in my hands.
"(y/n)?"
"Hm?"
"Did you sleep?"
"Mhm," I lie
"Tch, liar. You won't function properly if you don't sleep,"
"You function fine," I mutter, only to receive a smack in the face with a pillow.
"Hey!" I stand up and quickly get dizzy but I'm caught by Levi who swiftly got out of bed and is now in front of me.
"How are you so fast at this hour?" I ask under my breath.
"I slept," he whispers into my ear. "You're not training today."
"What! But the mission is in a few days and I have to train!" I argue
"You didn't sleep and you almost fell over,"
"That's not fair!" he puts his uniform on and looks at me as he buttons up his shirt.
"I'll bring you food and I want you to try and sleep." I give in, slumping my shoulders and looking down at the ground.
"I can't," I whisper
"You can't what?"
"Sleep. I'm...scared of him and what if he comes and tries to kill me again," it's hard to admit. I for once in my life am scared and to make matters worse I'm scared of my own brother. I watch as Levi's gaze softens and he walks closer to me.
"Fine, you're lucky I have paperwork to do. I'll grab some food and i'll do my paperwork here, okay?" I take a seat on my bed and look up at him.
"I'm sorry," I say softly
"Why?"
"I should be training not bothering you with my stupid paranoia," Slowly getting frustrated with myself.
"What's so bad about wanting to stay alive?" he asks before leaving. I lay back in my bed and close my eyes. Not a few minutes pass and I can't breathe. I feel a tightness around my neck as if someone was choking me. I open my eyes to find Noah on top of me, hands around my neck.
"What's up sis?"
"N-noah?" my voice is strained as I struggle to get him off me.
"Shh, don't worry just a few more seconds," Then he's gone and I take a deep inhale as I sit up in bed.
"(y/n) you're okay," Levi sits at my side a hand on my shoulder as I continue to take deep breaths looking around the room for Noah, "It was a nightmare, you're okay now." I fall back onto my pillow and close my eyes.
"Get up, you have to eat." I grunt as I get up and sit at the desk to eat. I glance out the window not noticing I've stopped eating until I'm smacked on the head.
"Hey!" I rub the smacked area, "What if I got dizzy because you gave me a concussion," I mutter.
"Shut up and eat your food," I finish eating and get back in bed. I face Levi as he does his paperwork. "It takes closed eyes for one to fall asleep," he says, not looking up from his papers.
"Whatever," I roll my eyes and turn to face the other way pulling the covers up closer to my neck.
"Goodnight (y/n),"
"It's not night," I mumble, getting annoyed by his presence.
"Fine, good afternoon,"
"Shut up," I hear him gasp and I slightly turn my head to find him in an over exaggerated shocked pose. "Tch, you're a distraction," I feel his breath on my ear as he has stood from his seat,
"You're distracting," I smack him in the face with a pillow and then place that same pillow over my head. I hear his muffled laughter which brings a smile to my face as I slowly drift off.
[ugh...maybe I shouldn't write thes at 4am :/ ttyl]
