Warnings: Maybe like one swear, but besides that just fluff (shocking I know)

Tom woke up to an eerily quiet and empty house, which was highly unusual for him and his roommates. Usually Harrison would be blasting music as he worked out as Y/N yelled at him to turn it down, or Y/N would come and wake him to go get her breakfast because Harrison refused to. But alas, Harrison was in the states filming his show and Y/N probably went to her university early to get some last minute prep done for her end of the year exams. It was weird being the only one home, when usually he was always the only one who was never home. Nevertheless, Tom begrudgingly got up and made his way downstairs. He couldn't be bothered to make himself an actual breakfast, so he just grabbed some cereal and sat on his couch with his phone out, answering and liking an onslaught of messages and posts.

He was brought out of liking what felt like the thousandth fan post on instagram by a rapid knocking on his door. Getting up slowly, still not physically awake enough to get on with his day, he answered his door and was met with the sight of his three brothers holding balloons and some cupcakes in their arms. Letting out a smile, Tom let them in and let them smother him in birthday wishes and cupcakes. After realizing that Tom was pretty much planning on spending his birthday alone, the boys decided they were going to make their older brother spend the day in the city with them, just walking around and maybe buying a few things.

He had a great time with his brothers, joking around and spending time with all of them, something he hadn't done in a while, but he couldn't help be a little upset that he still hadn't gotten so much as a text from Y/N. Usually his best friend was the first to get her birthday wishes in every year, claiming that she liked his birthday better than her own, but this year she seemed to have forgotten. He couldn't really blame her though, he knew how busy and stressed the girl had been, often acting like eating and sleeping were optional instead of necessary the past couple of weeks. He would literally have to force food down her throat, or take away her books and computer from her as if he was grounding her. As much as he wanted to be upset with her, he wasn't, not that he could ever genuinely be upset with the girl. Practically knowing each other since they could talk, they had a truly unbreakable bond, something the people around them couldn't help but admire, and even envy at times. They knew each other like the back of their hands, and it was always so simple with them. He'd be lying if he said if he hadn't harboured any feelings for her.

By the time they decided to make it back to Tom's house so they could all watch a movie or something, it was already past 9pm. It had ended up being a long day, and Tom couldn't wait to just go home and relax, and hopefully see Y/N, if she was even back that is. Tom went inside first, his house still being the eerie quiet it had been in the morning, and he fumbled around the walls to find the light switch. The second his hands flicked the switch, what seemed like a million voice screamed "SURPRISE!!" at him in all different directions. Tom jumped three feet in the air, and turned around to be met with the sight of pretty much all of his friends, with Harrison and Y/N standing in the front with the biggest smiles on their faces. "So much for being thick skinned." Jake said making most of the crowd snicker and Tom roll his eyes.

After greeting and briefly talking to all his friends, Tom made his way to his two dorks who were laughing their heads off at something. "Ahhh here comes the birthday boy." Harrison said as Tom came over to the two of them. Slinging an arm over Y/N's shoulder, Tom looked at the two of the most important people in his life. "How'd you guys even manage to pull this off? I mean, you got so many people to fly over to London!" Tom asked, still very surprised that they managed to do all of this without him knowing. "As much as I'd like to take credit for all this mate, this was all Y/N." Harrison said, looking at his blushing best friend. Tom raised his eyebrows and turned the small girl in his arms so that she was facing him. Harrison, obviously knowing about the feelings shared between the two, left with a pat on Tom's shoulder, not that he was paying attention.

"You did all of this by yourself?" Y/N just nodded sheepishly. "But I thought that you were busy, with like exams and stuff. I mean, I practically had to feed you with how stressed you were!" Tom exclaimed still not being able to wrap his head around the fact that she did all of this for him. "You're more important than an exam Tommy." She said shrugging, as if it was no big deal. Shaking his head at her, he wrapped his arms tightly around her waist, and brought her into a hug. "What did I do to deserve you?" He mumbled into her hair. She just giggled, and after a few more seconds, distanced herself out of his arms, but only just so she could see his face. Realizing that he was staring, he slowly let go of her, and looked away with to calm down his racing heart, and probably, his very red face. "So what did you do all day? I hope the twins and Paddy kept you well distracted, that was literally their only job." Tom laughed at the fact that you had no faith in his brothers. "They did a great job actually. I didn't suspect a thing. We just went around London goofing off. It was nice to just hang out with them after so long." "I'm so glad you had a good day Tommy. It was literally killing me not being able to even text you. I'm usually always the first one to wish you." Y/N pouted at her best friend. Tom's heart almost burst at how adorable she looked. "Why couldn't you just text me then? I thought you forgot about me." Now it was his turn to pout, though he was sure that he didn't look half as adorable as she did. "Stop! You're making me feel bad, I only didn't 'cause I was afraid I was just going to spill everything to you." Tom let out a laugh at her reasoning, silently scolding himself for thinking that she'd ever forget about him like that. "Since when can you not keep a secret?" Y/N was obviously the more tight lipped one between the two. "I've been been hanging around you too much." She replied, causing Tom to roll his eyes. "Now come on loser, we have to go socialize instead of just hiding in the corner." Y/N said pulling a pouting Tom behind her to go rejoin the party. "I thought you were supposed to be nice to me on my birthday."

The party was finally starting to wind down, everyone deciding that it was really late and that they should get going. After everyone had left, Tom crashed on the couch next to an equally exhausted Y/N. Harrison had headed up to sleep a while ago, still being jet lagged from his flight from the states. The house was definitely a huge mess, but that was a problem for tomorrow. Y/N snuggled into his side, letting out an adorable little yawn. "Did you have a good day?" She mumbled into his chest. "I did darling, I had a great day. Thank you." Tom said pressing a soft kiss to her hair. "Anything for my bestie." She giggled looking up at him. When the word bestie came out of her mouth, Tom's smile immediately fell from his face, but before he could put in back on, Y/N was immediately sitting up and looking at him with concern. "What's wrong? And don't tell me it's nothing, I've known you for too long to believe that." Y/N said taking a hold of his hands that were fidgeting in his lap. Being too exhausted to think of a believable lie, Tom decided it was now or never. He was tired of hiding his feelings from her for so long. "Bestie. That's what's wrong." Tom mumbled looking down, almost hoping that she didn't hear him. But of course she did. "What do you mean?" She asked tilting her head in confusion. When he didn't answer, Y/N gently tilted his head up so that she could meet his eyes. "Please tell me what's wrong." She practically begged. Taking a deep breath in, he knew there was no going back. "I-I just, I don't know, it hurts Y/N/N. It hurts to just be friends with you, when I'm so fucking in love with you. I love you so much that it hurts. It hurts seeing you everyday and not being able to just pull you in my arms and just call you mine." Tom chocked out, returning his gaze to his lap. When he didn't get a reply to his confession after a while, he looked up at Y/N to see her looking at him with a blank look on her face. Immediately realizing that she definitely didn't feel the same and that he may just have fucked up his friendship, he shook off her hands and swiftly got up. He needed to get out of here, now.  Before he could get very far however, he felt a firm tug on his hand. Not expecting it, he practically fell into Y/N. Y/N not missing a beat, quickly took the opportunity to wrap her arms around his neck, and tugged him down to meet her lips. Tom stood frozen for a second, not processing what was happening, before quickly kissing her back before she had the chance to pull away. "I'm in love with you too. Bestie." She teased, slightly pulling away from him. Tom just shook his head at her, still not quite grasping that she felt the same. "Best Birthday Ever." Tom said before pulling her lips back to his.
