I have a confession to make.

This was supposed to be the last Spirit, but then I did a thing. You see when I write, I barely have it planned out. I have a couple of vauge ideas in my head and I don't even think about what I'm doing. I just get in the zone and write.

So back to my thing I did accidentally. This Spirit ended in a way that is forcing me to write a fourth and final (probably, nothing is for certain) part. Surprise!

"A friend, or at least I'd like to be."

Y/n clenched her teeth at the vague answer. "I said who are you?!"

"Well, if you must know...." The spirit scoffed, fluffing her dark dress. "I am Zhan Tiri. Spirit of death, destruction, and of course." She grinned widely, flexing her fingers. "Pain." Varian's eyes widened as a dark cloud swirled around him. That's when the torment began. His cries echoed eerily off the stone walls as he pulled on his restraints. Y/n clamped a hand over her mouth, staring helplessly and horrified as the water spirit collapsed forward, blood dripping down his wrists from the rough ropes.

Suddenly, his head whipped up again, his chest heaving. His teeth were clenched and the psychotic gleam in his eyes was frightening. Zhan Tiri cackled maliciously, pointing her finger towards Y/n. The girl was too busy staring in horror at Varian who must've anticipated the demon's next move.

A burst of dark mist shot from her fingers straight toward Y/n. Her eyes widened, as it touched her skin, absorbing almost immediately. A fire spread quickly through her body. Weeks ago, Y/n would've never believed anything could be worse than drowning. Now, she would gladly take the freezing ocean any day over this.

Clutching her stomach, she fell to her knees, screaming and begging for it to stop. "Zhan Tiri!" Varian shouted, practically gasping. "You already have me! Let her go... please!"

The fire vanished.

The death spirit batted her eyelashes innocently. "But Varian, she's a human. In fact she's the daughter of your captor. I'm doing you a favor."

"I don't care who her father is. She's different so I beg you..." His expression softened with his voice. "Let her go."

Zhan Tiri sighed dramatically turning toward the girl. "Well all right. Leave while you can." Grunting with effort, Y/n rose from the ground, facing Varian. "I'm not leaving without you."

"Yes you are." His face remained expressionless, but his eyes shone with fear. He was terrified of being left here alone for any longer. Alone with this monster. What could possibly defeat this demon?

"Time's up! I changed my mind!" Zhan Tiri cheered, prancing toward Y/n. The new girl backed up toward the wall, her foot slipping on something sharp. It was the sword from Rapunzel! She must've dropped it when she first got there. Her hand discreetly inched toward the hilt, praying it would do the job. "I won't fight you like this, Zhan Tiri."
