Previously...

Blake and Parker nodded in agreement.

"Deal.."

----------------------------

Devyn started to slow down as a blizzard started blowing through the woods. She still hadn't wrapped her wound on her chest and small drips of blood seeped through her shirt.

Her vision was getting blurry as she felt her legs go numb, and eventually gave out from underneath her. In the distance as her hearing started to fade, she heard a familiar voice calling her name, eventually blacking out.

Joel, Parker, and Blake quickly followed what was left of the footprints as the blizzard started to pick up, and came to a stop when they disappeared.

"Shit... shit!" Joel growled and he looked around, looking at Parker and Blake, okay, you two take the left, and I'll take right."

"Are you sure? We won't be able to see if this gets worse!" Parker explained and Blake pulled out a flare gun, handing it to Joel.

"Here, use this to get our attention, and we'll follow it to you. We'll find her."

Joel accepted the gun and he nodded, heading to the right side and started to yell.

"Devyn! Devyn where are you!?"

He tried his best to see, and eventually seeing a faint shadow in the distance and his heart started beating faster.

"Devyn?" He saw the silhouette of someone, carrying a body in their arms. He started running and the figure was gone.

"No... no no no. Devyn!" He yelled and looked at the ground, seeing something in the snow, kneeling down and picking up a photo.

It was a portrait of him, Devyn, Ellie, and Lynlee on Ellie's 18th birthday, he gripped the photo tightly and quickly shot the flare gun.

Blake and Parker immediately saw the faint light of the flare and exchanged glances before heading back to Joel. Finding Devyn was going to be harder than they thought.

Hours later..

Waking up and her eyes adjusting to the faint light of a few candles in a room, Devyn groaned as she carefully sat up with a groan. She looked down at her chest, seeing bandages wrapped around securely.

She looked around the room, the windows were covered with planks of wood, and the walls were logs like a cabin. On the floor was a few clothes and supplies, also seeing her backpack and wet jacket.

"Where the hell am I?" She mumbled and her head shot up when she heard footsteps outside.

There was a slight knock, and a male voice was muffled on the other side of the door. "Hello? Are you awake?"

Devyn furrowed her brows, that voice sounded very familiar, a voice she hadn't learned in a long time. "No way.."

The doorknob twisted and the door opened slowly, and walked in was a tall man with blonde curly hair, pale skin and striking blue eyes. He wore a long sleeve green shirt and blue jeans, and in he carried a tray of food and medicine.

"Well, look who's up. I forgot how long it takes for you to heal." HIs voice was gentle, yet deep and soothing, a voice she had missed for a very long time.

Devyn did nothing but stare at him with tears in her eyes.

"Hey, you okay?"

"You... you fucking idiot.."

He was take back by her choice of words as he set the tray down on the nearby desk, "What? No 'thank you'? I kinda saved you from the sno-"

He was cut off by Devyn hugging him tightly, and he smiled as he wrapped his arms around her fragile frame.

"It's nice to see you again Dev.."

"Damn you Rowan.. I thought you were killed..?"

"That's what a lot of people thought too.. but I managed to live, it was close, but like you, I was saved."

Devyn pulled away and wiped her face. "So this is where you've been?"

"Yeah, well for a month, I'm out researching and looking for two of our crew members."

"Who?"

"Blake and Parker."

Devyn froze, "Wait seriously? They.. they just.."

"Wait, have you seen them?"

"yeah.. they were with some other guy.. Garrett?"

Rowan's expression changed, and he quickly changed the subject. "Sorry, uh, I brought you something to eat, and medicine too."

A bit confused, Devyn took the tray and started to eat. Rowan smiled and noticed the ring on her left hand.

"I see you've been busy," He smirked.

She blushed and smiled. "Yeah, I'm pretty lucky. He's amazing, and what about you? Have you gotten hitched?"

"Nah you know me, independent as fuck." He chuckled.

Devyn chuckled and nodded, "Yeah I remember.."

Rowan noticed that she was a little off, and he put his hand on her shoulder. "Hey, is there something on your mind?"

Devyn looked up at him and felt her chest tighten, boy what an uncomfortable situation this was.

"Oh uh.. nothing. I guess I'm just confused. Nervous maybe?"

"About?"

"There's.. something wrong with me. I'm not sure what it is, but I'm really, really scared of what could happen to me if I don't figure it out."

Rowan nodded and couldn't help but stare. He smiled and Devyn blushed a bit.

"You're just as pretty as I remember,"

Devyn sighed and smiled sadly. "Rowan, I'm flattered but.."

"Heh, right right, sorry. Don't mind my dumb flirting."

He stood up and grabbed a few papers from a side table, then walked towards the door.

"Now, go ahead and finish eating, and feel free to come out when you're able to walk."

Devyn nodded and smiled, "Thank you Rowan."

After he left the room, she let out a sigh and she laid back onto the bed, staring at the ceiling and remembering hearing Joel's voice back in the forest.

"Maybe I was just delusional.. I just hope he's doing okay at home.."

Her eyes became droopy and a wave of exhaustion set in, making her start to fall asleep, knowing she needs the well deserved rest.

Meanwhile, Rowan set the papers down on the counter in his small kitchen, as well as some photos he took of Devyn's bites while she was passed out before he wrapped her up.

"I knew it."
