The sword was ready three days after the incident at the bar. My father was disappointed but he knows my temper so he wasn't really angry at me. After all, it wasn't him to decide if I'm marrying Jacob. I saw Jacob a few times in the village but didn't bother to look at him and ignored him like I didn't know him at all. Of course, I told Jaskier all about it and he wrote a song about it. It was funny because he described him as a jester putting down his loved one but she broke free and stands better than she ever did.
As I got my sword on my back, I quickly made my way to the tavern in which Geralt had his room. I would meet there with Jaskier, so we can make our way to the duel. We arranged that we'll be riding through the woods to an abandoned beach where it's full of drowned dead. They were easy to kill and Geralt said that I shall prove myself at the same monster I failed to slay last time.
I knocked at Geralt's door which was quickly opened by him. He wore light armor just like me if you could describe it like that for me. He looked at my sword but said nothing on the way down. We went on our horses; I allowed Jaskier, as always to ride with me on Amber. The beach was about 20 minutes by horse away. I was nervous but excited at the same time. I hope I can slay them this time but with a silver sword this should be handleable.
"What's the price?" Jaskier suddenly asked. I tilted my head. "Why should there be a price?" I asked my friend, Geralt had that question on his mind according to his facial expression. "Guys. Come on." Jaskier said. "It's a duel - there must be a price." I sighed at him. "Okay, the winner gets a cup of booze." I said and Geralt nodded in agreement. Jaskier huffs at this. "You ol' drinkers." he states. "You're older than me!" I exclaimed.
Jaskier said nothing but instead got his lute. Geralt groaned quietly. The bard began to play a few notes trying to find something that sounds nice. "Let me ease the tense atmosphere here with a- with a song for ya." he says and starts playing; until we arrived. We all hopped off our horses. Jaskier stayed with the horses to not get involved with the drowned dead. Geralt made a gesture for me to go first. I would kill them as good as I can and if everything turns out well Geralt won't have to clean up the rest.
I got my sword ready, this time sure to beat them. I trained the last days with dummies, my father has for decorating purposes in his shop. With silver, they should be easy to get. I neared myself to the beach and could already hear the monsters gurgle and croak. I gulped audibly but collected all my confidence in my skills and made my way farther. They haven't noticed me yet. I was only five meters away from the first one. The trees gave me protection from being seen.
I charged with my sword at the first one and caught him in surprise. I sliced his head off his shoulders. My blade went through its flesh like butter. His head flew towards his friends who now noticed me as well. Only six left. One tried to catch me and jumped at me but I stepped aside and rammed my sword into his back as it gurgled in pain. I pulled my sword out of him and slashed the one next to him; his upper body falling off of his hips.
They circled me; I was trapped. Or so they thought. I swung my sword skilled and killed two at the same time with one hit. Three left. The one who was already hurt couldn't attack properly anymore so I ended his suffering and sliced his stomach open revealing his guts and some body parts of humans. He fell to the ground, to his friends.
The two left tried to flee towards the water. One was almost there while the other stood in front of me. I rammed my sword in his back as I did with the other and with an exhausted yell I pulled my sword up to cut it perfectly in half. My body covered in blood I charged forward but wouldn't make it in time to kill the last so I aimed at his head and threw my sword at him. He fell to the ground. His face was already underwater. I stepped towards it. To steady me, I stepped on the creature's back to pull my sword out of his head. I narrowed my eyes at the sight of a part of the brain of the monster. Like leftover butter on a knife, I drag the brain on the drowned dead body to get rid of it.
Exhausted I made my way back to Geralt and Jaskier. I wasn't used to that. Fighting monsters was much more intense than fighting humans. Jaskier cheered for me and clapped his hands. Geralt leaned with crossed arms against a tree. I couldn't read his expression. Was he impressed? Bored? I didn't know. I threw my sword to the ground and threw my head back. I sighed and stretched my arms along with my back. I had a smug grin on my face. "I won." I pointed with my index finger at Geralt and tapped his chest with it to make clear that I won. He looked down at me since he was a little less than one foot taller than me.
He smirks. "What? What's with that face?" I asked and stepped back. He shook his head. "You won." He stated "I owe you a cup of booze." he added and walked over to his horse. I followed behind him and Jaskier ran towards me. "You did it!" he cheered and gave me huge hug. "My little Eve did it, wasn't she great, Geralt?" he asked as if he was my mother. "She was." He answered what made me smile as I got up on Amber. A Witcher just told me that I did great in killing monsters. It felt like I just passed an exam done by the master himself.
"Some hits were sloppy. I think we have some training to do." he says with a teeny tiny grin on his face. "You mean-" I began. "She'll travel with us?" Jaskier excitedly finished my question. He shrugged. "If she wants to." he simply stated and began to ride in the direction of the village. I let out a little girly screech. I shut myself up with my hands. What was that?
