Evelyns pov

It was already early in the evening and Jaskier, my father and I were saying our goodbyes to Geralt who was now on Roach to start his journey to Kaer... Kaer... Morhen. That was the name. I should really memorize it. It would be embarrassing to not know the name of where I am later. I waved at him as the others already headed back. "Jaskier!" I called my friend who turned around and looked at me with a smile and looked at me, waiting for me to continue talking. I went towards him and gave him a hug. He was taken by surprise but returned my hug. "What was that for?" he asked but I shrugged. "Just wanted to hug my friend." I smiled at him. In reality, it was a goodbye as I will leave soon, too.

I went inside the house and Jaskier went to his. My father and I ate dinner and spoke about what I'll be doing now and I told him that I'll be doing the usual; help him and spend my days with Jaskier, which was nothing more than a lie I told him. Afterwards, I went into my room and packed the bag I've used for the journey before. I only exchanged the clothing inside. I waited until it was silent in the house what meant that father went to bed already.

I sneaked down the hall and the stairs. I took my cloak and my swords and as I made my way towards the door I almost died because of the heart attack I almost got. "Off to Kaer Morhen?" I heard my father asking. I turned around with wide eyes. "How do you-?" he interrupted me. "You're so keen on this medallion that I could sense that you wouldn't want to wait until the next winter." he said and even though that wasn't the true reason why I left I nodded quickly. "Ye- yes! You totally got me." I said and he rolled his eyes and stepped closer. "Be careful." He gave me a kiss on my forehead and hugged me goodbye. "I'll miss you, father." I whispered and he nodded in agreement that he'll miss me too.

I attached my bag to Amber and rode off to the location Geralt and I had agreed on. It was getting dark by now and I had to hurry so I would find my lover. It took me about 20 minutes and I saw Geralt sitting in the grass, leaning against a tree and Roach standing next to him chewing on some grass. "Geralt." I said in excitement and hopped off of Amber to literally throw myself in his arms. That got him by surprise but he put his arms around my waist. I looked behind the tree he was leaning at to see that the sleeping blanket was already put down and I gave him a soft kiss which was too short to return.

We both laid down and our horses were tied to a bough. We could barely see the sky through all the trees. They had almost lost all their leaves but they had so many branches and boughs that it was still hard to see. "You know-" I began and Geralt looked down at me since I put my head on his chest. "Jaskier and I went to a fortune-teller before we started to travel." Geralt snorted. "You don't believe in that, or do you?" he asked and I shrugged. "I don't know and since she told me my supposed future I don't want to believe in it." he looked at me in confusion and wanted me to go on.

"She told me that I'll be having a child... It didn't quite sound like it would be my own but I don't even want a child. I can't handle children." Geralt snorted again. "You're as good in handling children as handling monsters." I looked at him. "I'm not ready for a fucking child." I cursed frustrated because I really don't want a child. "Don't worry about this fortune teller, all they say is nonsense. They just tell you what most people want to hear: having a happy family and such things. They only predict what kind of person you are." That really let me relax. "You think so?" he nodded and I cuddled more onto him.

"Evelyn." Someone said. I groaned and wanted to sleep a little more. "We need to go. There's still around a week left 'til we get to Kaer Morhen." Geralt stated and started packing his things back up. Very sleepy I got up and helped him so we could go already. A week? Should be more than easy since I even endured over two months on the road.

During the week we tried to start when the sun rose and stop when it set. Like this, we managed to overcome a big amount of way and we would arrive before the first snow. Only a surprising blizzard would ruin our plans but there were no signs for that; the sky was clear and the air wasn't getting significantly colder only the way it should.

We tried to find an inn or, if we were off the road, a cave where we won't be exposed to the cold air at night. I wonder if Jaskier found out by the time I am now gone and if father told him where I would be going but even if he did, Jaskier had no clue how to get here and I wouldn't want him to come because the way is filled with monsters that were easy to beat but still a life-threatening creature to him, who is without a silver sword.

In the distance, I could see a demolished fortress and looked amazed at it. "That's Kaer Morhen?" I asked and pointed towards it and Geralt nodded. It was in the middle of nowhere and there was a large forest around it and a lake behind it if I saw that right. "We're here."
